Reviewer:metaltje - - October 26, 2009 Subject: still goin strong big thanks for tyler for continuing to tape these guys as much as possible. glad someone is documenting this inspired band. keep up the good work. the sound quality on this one isn't exactly unimpeachable. that being said, i've never been to kaysan's but i get the impression that it isn't the easiest place to tape at. crowd noise is gonna happen. vocal levels get a little buried at times. the louder you play it, the less bothersome the flaws are. the show itself is hot. the words/reaper combo get things rolling right with some great organ work. lovin dave's new tune, whatever it turns out to be called. medicine is the most outstanding part of the first set, although there is some unfortunate crowd noise at times. the game is fine, but walking on the moon gets off to kind of a rough start before rounding into form. as far as i know, they hadn't played it in forever, and this was by request, so whatever. not a big fan of tiny eyes; just not a preferred tune from these guys for me. i also typically am not big on anything that gets tracked out as "drums", but this one is particularly good and picks up steam into the jam with the rest of the band before an excellent cheshire cat. move your ass is a blast from the past to kick off the second set, but the mandolin is kind of tough to pick out most of the time. the georgie/zelda/rrr/that1jam/square pegs round holes segment is the hippo doing what it does best. this is the meat of the show, and it smokes. georgie has been a strong mainstay for a while, and zelda made a welcomed return and sounded tight. the whip crack lurch into run rabbit run is great and reminds me off buried alive kicking off a phish set circa 95. that one jam bridges the way nicely to square pegs round holes, a real favorite of mine. just a great overall sequence from a locked-in band. the requisite indiana theme is what it is. a joke of a number, but a nice breather. things get serious again with a ripping matt's atlas. emd all together is an interesting piece, but personally all i want is emd part 2. can't get enough. bob the wondercat is a high energy closer and a fitting exclamation point for the set. stoked was definitely the right encore choice. i've privately been chuckling about the half dozen different spellings: raziki, rasiki, rasaki, etc. whatever they're stoked on, it's good stuff. thanks again to tyler and to the band; everybody keep a good thing going.

Please support bands and venue's that allow taping.. Purchase any and all official merchandise...I moved the stand about 1' higher during set break to about 7.5' high due to so many loud talkers next to the mic stand!
