Subject: Peaaaaace in the Valley
Interesting little movie about how the Tennessee Valley Authority came to be, and pretty much saved the farmer from eventual ruin because of all the haphazard farming practices that they did, eventually causing serious problems, eg, erosion and flooding. Their solution was to add dams pretty much everywhere and teach the farmers, well, how to be better farmers. The film is first told from the perspective of some literal hicks living up in the mountains, making their keep from the soil. When the soil aint cutting it, the gummint literally walks in, causing explosions! Big Machinery! The little kid in the family decides to investigate further, and discovers a big dam being built close to thei house, Father investigates too, walking all around the dam construction, which tells me construction safety was a bit lax during that time. Anyway, Dam after dam is built, (the relief map showing dams popping all over the place is a hoot) and everyone is happy! Yay!

Subject: Exceptional Film
This outstanding documentary on the TVA traces the horrors faced by those living in the Tennessee River Valley prior to the construction of a series of Dams constructed to releive not only the flooding but to provide proper irrigation for crops. The run-offs from rains and over-flowing rivers and their tributaries caused major havoc prior to the TVA coming in and fixing this problem. Many homes and farms were lost not to mention lives. This remarkable documentary traces the trials, tribulations and final success of all those involved. The narration is meloncholy amd low keyed and at no time over-dramatic. The music is outstanding. This entire production is a masterpiece of film-making at its very best.
A Must See Film!
