Subject: Vanessa live at Milford
The 8th song in this live collection is entitled "Heroes and Thieves"...on Saturday night, June 6th, 2009, Vanessa Carlton was both a hero and a thief.
Why was she a hero? This is how I see it...she walked gingerly through so many possible landmines and potential problems...bad acoustics, bad weather, playing live with a choir she never heard before, the potential of playing in front of a drunken NASCAR crowd (the Pocono 500 fanatics were only a few miles away in Long Pond Pa. and in need of some pre-race evening beery entertainment ) fueled by visions of Dale Earnhardt Jr. winning his first ever Pocono 500 race... Yeah, Vanessa triumphed over all of these looming problems with a piano, a bass player, and a high school chorus strapped firmly on her back and delivered one of the best outdoor concerts EVER heard, not just in Pa. but ANYWHERE!!!! and for FREE!!!!
Here's hoping that she delivers on her promise on the intro to "More Than This" that she will also be here again next year...and yes Vanessa, you're right, listening to you here on a beautiful night in early June sounding the way you did there is nothing else we needed "more than this"...
Props also to John (?) the bass player, the chorus, the piano tuner, (and haulers), Keith, (the guy who recorded this) and everyone associated with getting Vanessa and putting this show together...
Why is she a thief? Yeah, the cheap, easy and cliched answer is true...this Grammy nominated chanteuse STOLE our hearts by showing us what a fantastic vocalist, piano player, and genuine person she was by giving us such a great show on this beautiful June early summer evening...Best wishes to her for a successful summer 2009 tour!!!!
JW
