Subject: vergil not messianic but visionary
the studies review the references in augustine, dante and linguistic studies to this poem about the birth of the god of this new age. the commentary equates this god with jesus, and the linguistics reflect the interests of academics who don't know latin.
my reading connects vergil to the spiritual awareness of his pre-christan time. the oracles at cumae, the ages of the creation, the audience for the beginning of the the gospel of john, these are the setting.
the poem itself refers to its hope of breaking out ot the orthodoxy of its time to reach higher.
