The U.S. Dept. of the Interior, National Park Service, Arlington House, The Robert E. Lee Memorial suggests this is the first truly American Cookbook; the first edition was published in 1824. See http://www.nps.gov/history/museum/exhibits/arho/exb/Family/medium/ARHO282_Mary-Randolph-Portr.html for further details regarding Mrs. Randolph as well as her portrait and burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
