Subject: We had a great time w/ Vince....
The lineup for these shows was of course Vince, joined by a group of Chicago musicians, most of whom were also part of Terrapin Flyer:

Kris Nowak on lead guitar, vocals. (Cornmeal)
Mike Hazdra on bass. (Dark Star Orchestra)
Gary Gibula on guitar, vocals. (The Schwag)
Jim Farmer on drums. (Speargrass, Jack Straw)
Daon Hufnus on drums. (Terrapin Flyer)

Terrapin Flyer toured w/ Vince periodically from 2001 till his death in June 2006. We were to tour again w/ him in late June of that year, but because of his departure, TC stepped in and we played a series of shows in tribute instead....

Take care....

You hit the nail on the head! This whole "throw a temper tantrum when your wishes aren't met" thing needs to be at the Bobby Sherman fan site or somewhere. I'd like to add my $0.02 by asking the rhetorical, "What about the Dead playing Johnny B. Goode"? Is that not OK because you didn't get your allowance on time this week or...?

A five to conteract the grimmie's spit fit. Besides, Vince was a cool head and a hoot to watch/listen to with The Tubes too. RIP, Babe.

For what its worth this show isn't bad at all. Vince loved the Dead and was part of it, who knows how long he would have been in it and who cares if it was only 5 years, wow Keith and Pigpen weren't in it much longer. As if longevity in a band really matters if you can play the EARLY material of that band anyways. Calling VW a dead cover band, well Phil's a dead cover band so who cares. Atleast Vince tried his best to kept the spirit of the dead alive in his way and thats cool that he busted out some early stuff. Why not. He has that right plus he used to see the dead when they did play Creampuff.
I never got why some so-called deadheads trashed him.

Subject: well...i listened to it...AT LEAST!!!
it ain't all that great of a show, and the recording ain't all that great either...BUT DAMMIT you idiots...quit reveiwing a show you "didn't listen to". No one here cares about whether YOU think vince should be playing grateful dead tunes or not...and it should have NO influence on your rating!!! these ratings are all about the music, the quality of the show or maybe even, your experience at a show. otherwise, it's best to not post a damn thing and move on.

Subject: so
i haven't listened to the show and don't think i have time to either. however, i'm asking you-- why is vince playing such early dead material? he wasn't there; it's not his material. he was unfortunately like the last to hold the cursed keys position in the band, but all he had to do w/ those songs was performances 30 years after release.

i dont like that he was playing some of this shit. i like vince, and im heart-broken to hear the way he felt about the dead when he died (that whole issue about the dead ignoring him for reunion tours, etc., etc.-- i mean, he wasn't really someone to 'reunion' with since he was there for such a short time in context). but still, it was sad.

these might be some nasty jams. if they are, let me know @ lily.pad.sandwich@gmail.com. i won't probably read any responses to this show onsite, so maybe you can help me change my mind.

i'm almost suggesting he's 'vince welnick' is a dead cover band. sorry if i offended anyone. but some of this material is WAY too early to be played by vince. CREAM PUFF!? HONESTLY, WTF?!?

From the Jambase site at http://www.jambase.com/headsup.asp?storyID=2538

The line-up on both 08/02 and 08/05 was announced as (middle of first paragraph) :

"Also that Friday, August 2 Sundog will host a Grateful Deadhead grassroots show at Thai Joe's Bangkok Orchid, a fine live music club and restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (see thaijoes.com for more venue details). This show will feature Vince and Terrapin Space Band, a Chicago group organized by Jim Farmer (drummer for Speargrass). Joining Vince on guitars will be Kris Nowak (of the Calico Cats and Terrapin Flyer) and "Grateful Gary" Gibula (formerly of The Schwag). Mike Hazdra (formerly of Dark Star Orchestra) will play bass and Daon Hufnus (Terrapin Flyer) will play drums. The show begins at 11:00pm, with an opening band (TBA) to begin the night at 9:00pm. Admission is $8.00 per person at the door, and there will be a $3.00 special discount for those folks camping at the Hoppe Homestead.

To wrap up a wonderful weekend, Sundog has planned a closing show on Monday, August 5 with Vince Welnick and Terrapin Space Band. Festivities will take place at the Wise Fools Pub in Chicago. This is an early show that begins at 8:00pm, and admission is $8.00 at the door."
