Subject: Spiritual Moment
We drove 16 hours to see Ween at Red Rocks (with opening bands Tenacious D and Galactic).

With a storm moving onto downtown Denver, behind the stage (assuming you were sitting high up in the stands), bright, strong lightning bolts shot around the sky and onto the city.

We were spared much of the rain until "I Can;t Put My Finger On It" began. The long intro was like a call to the gods to bring forth rain. And then it began to fall.

We'd walked from Morrison up to the amphitheater and had no idea how we were going to get back down in the pitch black (wet) night. Add to that, there were bear sightings in and around Morrison and we didn't really want to confront any beasts on our return hike.

We found a few Ween fans that used to live out east and they had a case of local beer from Ween's hometown. Good swill in a can that didn't leave a headache. They happily drove us down the mountain and let us off in Morrison.

I should add that the Galactic set that night was even more magical than Ween's set. Hard to believe, but with all of the bass from Galactic, the mountain was rumbling. With the city lights behind the stage and the clouds moving by it felt like we were flying on a giant space ship.

I have yet to find that Galactic show anywhere :(

For what it's worth, the Tenacious D opening was one of their earliest shows (a while before their first CD came out) and they did a nice job for being a couple of dorks with guitars on this huge, historic stage :)

My rating isn't for the live show I experienced, but rather for this specific recording. As far as Ween live shows of this time go (which include MANY soundboard recordings), this one isn't the best. It has a LOT of audience noise and echo from the amphitheater (that may be a good thing as far as you're concerned, though). The loud songs sound great, the quieter moments and songs are a bit far away.

This is DEFINITELY the Red Rocks show, though, and the only copy of it I've ever seen online.

I was taping the show, too, but the quality was *horrible* and I ended up accidentally recording over the MD. Ah well, this one is better than mine.
