Subject: West Pullman residential and industrial
Before the Pullman Strike of 1894 tarnished the Pullman name, investors thought West Pullman sounded "bankable" and invest they did. The West Pullman Land Assn began buying up farms, attracting downstate (Illinois) industries...then they hired a couple residential architects, got the Illinois Central Railroad to construct a branch that would connect West Pullman/Stewart Ridge to the main line, then they got the new Calumet Electric Street Railway (streetcar line) to go along the border of the town and in 1893 the crash happened.
