The prolific leading-edge electronica band Mystified has come to Webbed Hand with this splendid dark ambient EP called "Cardboard Hotel."
Fans of Mystified's many album releases and compilation appearances will be thoroughly pleased with this collection of deep listening tracks.
Thomas Park, the sole proprietor of Mystified, brings into his work equal doses of illbient, minimal, industrial, ambient, experimental, and a handful of other esoteric styles, and to good effect. This is excellent headphones-in-the-dark music, but you might feel equally comfortable taking it for a drive through city and country.
You can visit The Mystified homepage for more information and to meet the man behind the magic.

Very well crafted EP by Thomas Park
Mystified Cardboard Hotel EP
Im glad Im finally getting around
to doing some reviews for Mystified.
Ive waited because Thomas Park has
such an extensive body of work on
Webbed Hand and its not so easy to
get a handle on what he's about
(Ive been listening to as much as
I could squeeze in for going on two
weeks now).
Im also going to come out and say
that I havent found all his work to
be as consistent nor as accessible
as Id (selfishly) like. Having
said that, the Cardboard Hotel bears
"close" scrutiny. It really is
delightful and remarkable in its
ability to shift from a
minimal-concrete sound to a dark
beat-oriented approach. It also
keeps me interested, which not 'all'
the extended pieces on Webbed Hand
can do for me.
I will add that I was really
struck by the Lost Hours track
in particular on this work; it
feels like a (successful!) homage to
Jeff Greinke's style - just very
atmospheric yet with an urban
sensibilty (I'm actually reminded
of Greinke in general on this).
This is a great EP and it shows
that Park is an adept artist.

Great low-key electronica.
Excellent late-night listening - some ethno influences alongside neat, low-key melodic electronics, in the fairly distinctive Webbed Hand style, even though it's by an external artist.
