What more need I say? Heath Yonaites and K.M. Krebs, both figures who loom large and formidable in the field of imaginative/speculative sound art, have collaborated on an album. Ideal for headphones, or if you are blessed with a really great speaker setup, an environment you could immerse yourself in and swim around.
In this collaboration, each provided the other with the raw materials to mix into finish tracks.

(I don't think I CAN write
a brief review!)
No need to mince words here, The Seed
Project is a truly enjoyable and thoroughly
listenable work from two gents who, in my
mind, stand at the precipice of becoming much
larger players in their field. Both Heath
Yonaites and Kevin M. Krebs manage to
achieve a far more engaging work than many
of their (perhaps more well-known) peers in
the ambient world. The Seed Project reveals
versatility along with accessibility and, at
the same time, remains remarkably faithful to
the sounds that Webbed Hand seems to have
cultivated so well.
Opening the album is The Subjugation of
Ghosts which offers a plethora of organic
and, at times, haunting textures, along with
loops and acoustic sampling. Cutting Through
Time and Foreign Scents also evoke the
aforementioned traits, without ever sounding
derivative. I am reminded of the likes of
Robin Storey and Stefano Musso, but hesitate
to name anyone really, because part of the
great charm of the Project in particular,
and Webbed Hand in general, is its
uniqueness, and the fact that its not
attempting to sound like anyone else at
all.
Its best left to listeners to decide who
or what influences are brought to bear here.
The music often evokes the familiar and the strange (a Webbed Hands motif, along with
the occasional use of short-wave radio and
b-movie-type samples) and yet The Project
still manage to make some headway into new territory. Yonaites and Krebs are not
heavy-handed in their use of the familiar,
or with familiar sounds, and while the
album is remarkably consistent in quality,
it is never content to sit and stir in
its own juices (i.e., it avoids boring us).
Each track hones in on its own sense of individuality (check out the pleasantly creepy This Will Be a Lonely House or
Ones Who Are Called Strangers evocative titles! Experimental, but never jarring,
never to the point of exclusion and again,
never to the point of being overly familiar. Ive listened to the disk several times
and feel amply rewarded each time. I
really look forward to future work by both
Yonaites and Krebs, as individuals and,
perhaps again, as collaborators. All who
make it to this site owe it to themselves to sample this jewel in Webbed Hands
multi-tiered crown. Im struck by the possibilities.

This album is wonderful-- it is very original and succeeds in being quite hypnotic, as well. Part of the fun of listening is trying to identify what sounds one is hearing. This is a pleasantly difficult task. Sounds from strange sources, heavily processed, are artfully arranged. . . some reach out to your ear, others remain at the horizon. . . I was astonished by the creativity and diversity of these tracks. Truly a great release!

Subject: Aural Amalgams
Subject: Aural Amalgams
Pleasant memories are associated with this album of which I am fortunate enough to have a copy of the CD-R release. The Seed Project gave me my first serious exposure to the music of both K. M. Krebs and Heath Yonaites and has had a major influence on my interest and tastes in electronic music. In this release, each artist creates beautiful aural amalgams by manipulating and processing sound samples provided by the other. My favorite genres can be found here: spacious ambient drones, episodes of dark ambient, electroacoustic elements, abstract moments, along with hints of microsound and glitch. Download, listen, enjoy, and absorb.
