Subject: THE GAS TURBINE IS NOW BRITAIN'S ROSPERITY
Fun little film, told newsreel style, about the advent of the jet engine. Curious images abound, especially in the beginning, but I guess it does it's job, because it certainly kept my interest.

Subject: A Coventry Hero!
Odd that they concentrate on Leicestershire and show a Coventry (three spires) skyline, without mentioning his Coventrian roots. As a son of Coventry I'm a trifle piqued. Ho-Hum, said Pooh. Check this out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Whittle#In_Whittle.27s_birthplace.2C_Coventry.2C_England.2C_UK

I believe there's a plaque in his honour on Hearsal common.

Subject: For the engineer
Never mind the acting, or the fox hunters. It is a good primer for those who know nothing about jet engines. And, an interesting film for an engineer like myself who knows jet engines.

Subject: Weird or wonder?
Fairly interesting, if a bit pedestrian and badly acted, but also rather bizarre at times (e.g. contrasting the people developing the jet engine with the local gentry out fox-hunting). To be honest, it's probably more interesting for what it shows of British life in the 50s than the development of the jet engine!
