LibriVox recording of The Woodpeckers, by Fannie Hardy Eckstorm. Read by Laura Victoria.
The Woodpeckers is a wonderful introduction to the world of bird study for the young naturalist, covering such topics as how he finds food, courting, how he builds his nest, the interesting ways he uses his different body parts as tools, among other topics discussed in the book.
If you wish to investigate further, the book has a few diagrams and an Appendix that contains more technical information such as detailed descriptions of the different species of North American woodpeckers which were not read as part of this audiobook. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/35062
(summary by Laura Victoria)
For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording.

If you love and appreciate the wonders of nature, you will truly enjoy this book. As a bonus, the last chapter gives one of the most forceful, cogent, and concise arguments in support of “Intelligent Design” you will ever come across. Narrator, Laura Victoria, aka Laura Caldwell, is a consummate reader. I have discovered the secret that if you really enjoy a narrator’s book, you have likely come across a treasure trove of many other great stories. I have listened to all of her narrations. She really knows how to select the most remarkable books.
