Pretty funny, but it's exactly the same premise as Tex Avery's "What's Buzzin' Buzzard," which is a much snappier, faster-paced (and more violent!) cartoon. The plot setup in this one takes much too long.

The difference between Alex Lovy and Tex Avery is the difference between talent and genius, that's all.

Cartoon Carnival is the name of the video, made by Candy Video in 1987. I have the vhs tape that I bought for my kids back in the 80,s. It's still in great shape except for the very beginning which is a little messed up, but its only about the first minute. Hope this makes your day :)

Yeah! I used to watch this cartoon all the time when I was a kid and I have been looking for it for ever. So is the name Pantry Panic of this cartoon?

Also, if anyone else knows..this cartoon was a complation video tape with a bunch of really great old, crazy and bizarre cartoons.

It had the old lady in a shoe (black and white), a cartoon about a hunter and his dog and the rabbit keeps them up all night and a cartoon about a duck who wants to go sailing like his father did and the ship wrecks...

I know this probably isn't rining a bell with any one, but if it does and you remeber the name of that VHS with all these cartoons that would just make my day..

Subject: Ha Ha Cartoon Violence is so amusing!
When Woody (Woodpecker, in case you didnÃÂt know) fails to heed the advice of the groundhoug that winter is fast approaching, he finds himself in a heap of trouble! Especially when a windstorm sucks up all his food! Then a cat comes along, and Woody realizes his food troubles are over! Problem is, cat thinks the same too.
This is a great cartoon as itÃÂs GOOD AND VIOLENT! Lots of knives. And whatnot are thrown, and the ending is somewhat unexpected (something is killed off screen). Not for someone with a fear of sharp implements.

mmmm,,,,,,, great to see Woody,
but its a pretty nasty story...just lots of characters wanting to eat each other basically!...no particularly memorable action sequences, the voice of the cat was super. not the best

This cartoon was made long before political correctness came about and as a result, is genuinely funny to the point of making my sides ache. This was my favorite cartoon as a child and it's good to see it available on the internet. An absolute masterpiece.

...However it's about three-quarters of the way through when Woody's predator shows up. As good a Lantz Cartoon this is, it only pronounces the superiority of other studios like MGM's and WB's cartoons. They could made the whole cartoon about Woody and the cat trying to eat other(not just the last quarter)...and successively top each gag, too.

I loved Hunger(smoking a cigar!) and When Woody says "Cat .....Fish!". Still....it's funny stuff.

Great early Woody Woodpecker short from c. 1940 featuring the early elongated and more zany Woody. Alex Lovy, who would later work for Hanna-Barbera, seems to be taking his cues from Tex Avery in this zany reversal.

Woody is warned that winter is coming, but brazenly ignores the warning. After all of his food taken by a cyclone, a cat comes to town to eat Woody. But, Woody begins chasing the cat to eat him instead. Some very good fourth-wall breaking and some visual puns are in this short. Woody also gets in his trademark laugh. Overall, one of the better Woody shorts, and a fine example of what Walter Lantz Studios could do.
