This is an excellent quality recording. Some of the versions (e.g., Boom Boom Mancini) are less energetic than on, e.g., the London 1988 recording available here. Has anyone else noticed that Poor Poor Pitiful Me and Excitable Boy are identical to the versions on 10-22-1982 Capital Theater, New Jersey? Not sure about Cadillac Ranch. There's a video on YouTube of the same Excitable Boy performance, and it's also attributed to New Jersey 1982. The quality of the recordings here is better, however.

As a straight SBD this show does lack room presence and warmth - it is very clear and nicely balanced but a tad sterile.
I pity that poor guitar player, trying to come up with guitar parts to replace the insanely creative and unique parts played by Gilmour and Garcia on the album - the little guitar effect on Transverse City is a bit comical compared to the incredible MIDI voice on the original, though it's well played. And I do like the weird rearrangement of the outro on that song.
It's great to hear hot versions of these T-City songs, which are some of my favorites out of the whole Zevon catalog - the whole album isn't great, but the best songs (these, They Moved The Moon, Gridlock) are just fricken great.
A real nice upload and well worth the listen.

The sound on this recording is, without doubt, the best I've heard on any of the many Zevon shows I've downloaded from here, and it's well worth downloading for that alone. Every instrument is clearly audible, there's no discernible hiss or crackle, audience noise is minimal, and the mix is excellent. I've heard worse-sounding officially-released live albums. The only downside is that, due to the near-total lack of crowd noise, it's a little lacking in atmosphere.
The setlist is also interesting, focusing heavily on the underrated 'Transverse City' album.
Sadly, what (slightly) lets this one down is the performance. The songs are well-played, and Warren's in excellent voice, but there's little of the fiery energy of some of his better shows, which makes even rougher-sounding recordings so enormously enjoyable. There's not much in the way of between-song banter, and while Warren sounds engaged and committed on his then-current 'Transverse City' material, some of the older songs sound almost perfunctory, as though he was simply bored with playing them for the umpteenth time.
Not a bad recording, and easily the equal of either of Zevon's officially-released live albums. But there are better concerts available to download here.

Hands down the best Warren offering yet as far as sound quality. There are more interesting shows on here but unfortunately most of them sound rough. The energy is high and Warren sounds like he's having fun.
Thank God for the Archive!
