Subject: where does he hide his wings?
i was at this show, front row! i saw him at the 'roo two months before the ob show and he didn't even have a name for "messages". he told a crowd of very hopeful creatures that he would call it the bonnaroo song:) so all i could say to him at winstons was play the bonnaroo song, and when he did i heard all the colors and saw the beautiful music. xav will forever be a favorite of mine. the man is amazing!!! after the set xav came out and took pics w/me and talked to my friend kate on the phone in indiana. right on xav!! collie your on my mind. see ya at belly up:)

Subject: questions with set list
a) im not sure if that is actually Timber and Wood becuase it lacks the unique guitar part.
b) the song entitled "Special Feeling" is actually "Bass Jam" and can be heard on many xavier recordings

Subject: Great recording
Great recording tyler. I know xavier personally and have seen him play 12 times now. I must say this is probably one of the best sets he has played that i've heard. It was a pity about the kurt cobain comment though otherwise good clean sounds. I like it.

My friend Jesse told me to check out Xavier Rudd, so I did. Thanks to Jesse, once again! I love this music even though I know almost nothing about Xavier. For what I do know, though, he should probably be touring more with the likes of Martin Sexton and Keller Williams than Jack Johnson. Yeah, they have the surfing thing in common, but maybe they should do a surfing tour. Sure, I love Jack. I even bought all of his studio cd's, but his music is so easy going, relaxing and simple. I know that's the point of it, but Xavier is a freaking PHENOM! His music is spectacular. What incredible energy and passion! Thanks to Jesse, Archive, and Xavier. This is awesome. I've GOT to see a show and tell as many people as possible! ...'Til next time!

I think I did a great job recording this show and the mk4's sound great! I'm so stoked I was lent this gear to use... I wish I had hit more shows with it... THough the crowd can be noisy and beachy at winstons, this show is pretty clean and the show quality is awesome. good jams, good energy and I was pretty impressed with Xavier, as this was the very first time I had seen / heard him. I'd recommend giving him a listen for sure!

This show has phenomenal sound as has been previously noted.

The performance of timber and wood is one of xavier's best recorded didj jams. The rhythmic precision and range of techniques he packs into 2 minutes and 20 seconds are mind boggling and should be a great inspiration to any didj player as well as anyone who wants to just boogie.

I actually like the guy who makes the Kurt Cobain comment during messages as he illustrates the lyrics of the song so beautifully!

Subject: Great recording, especially for Winstons
This is a great clear recording, especially when considering Winstons history of having 3/4 of the crowd there to see the artist and the other 1/4 locals who always cruise Winstons and hang towards the back by the bar with little respect for the rest of the audience. As loud as the bar area can get at Winstons if everyone there isn't listening I'm extremely impressed.

"Messages" is a great Xavier song that I'd love to hear more often as the message is the right one and the song is beautiful. It's unfortunate someone had to yell, "you're not Kurt Cobain" during this song, once again, one local showing a lack of respect for his surroundings.

I agree with Finchy that Tyler did a great job recording this...considering Finchy supplies some of the best tapings and tape quality I've found, his compliment is a big one. I've also noticed the slower tempo that Xavier played at on many of the songs this tour. Compared with some of the much slower studio recordings there's a big difference, the advantage being some listeners might not be as attracted to the slower more mellow versions of his songs if they hadn't already heard him playing them much quicker. I'm sold either way.

Subject: Tyler's Magic!
SENSATIONAL gig & recording! I have heard all the Xav shows on the archive, & (personally) I seriously rate this as the best AUD recording!! Its very clean & clear, well balanced overall. In a couple of the very quiet songs the sound is a little softer, but having recorded Xav many times myself: I know how hard that is to avoid this without manual adjustments in the post-mix.

1 thing I have noticed is that a lot of Xav's songs are now played at a slower tempo, more mellow etc, I noticed this also at the last show I saw in May '04, & seems to be consistent for all the US touring. Its not worse, but I do kinda miss the up-beat tempo & the more energetic passion.

Anyway - a F**KING BEAUTIFUL recording! & very enjoyable. I would HIGHLY recommend Xav fans to d/l this show! & I'm looking forward to more of Tyler's recordings! :D

Notes

Beth Preston was opening. Thanks to boogie for the gear.
