Various[xgn020] Shadow Infestation EP (September 19, 2005)

Would you like to try our new video/audio player ? (beta!)

For our 20th release, we've put together a 4 track EP full of dark, hard and fast paced drum and bass for the twisted mind from four new faces to Exegene.
Throttler's 'Obey' kicks off the aural madness with an onslaught of metallic beats with enough edits to keep any breakcore fan happy. Subtle strings flow behind the growling basslines before some screaming hoovers explode out, old No U-Turn style!
The second track 'Not Now' by Nekura continues the sonic barrage with some hard edged amen processing and pounding subbass. The track then breaks down into some twisted effects and haunting strings, which then kicks back off with even harder breaks than in the first section.
Blal then takes the EP to a more psychotic and weird level with 'Carnivore' which features choir vocals and strings, accompanied by clanging breaks and intense snapping basslines.
Medium then finishes the EP off with 'Dead Effect', a distorted assault of sharp drums, ripping synthlines, harsh stabs and rolling subs.

Enjoy!

Gratisvibes has been featuring a lot of IDM albums. The last 2 entries were not. Let me contribute to that as well.

Besides IDM, I personally do listen to some drum and bass as well. This is from one of the drum and bass netlabels which I have recently discovered, Exegene.

Exegene is a drum and bass netlabel, started up in August 2004 bringing you all dark, breaky and atmospheric styles of drum and bass.

This very release from them fits their description completely. 4 tracks from 4 drum and base artists, each of them dark, breaky and atmospheric, yet very distinct from each other.

Some notable tracks:

Throttler's 'Obey' is one of my personal favourites from this EP. I am a sucker for edits and this track has a significant amount of edits that makes the beat non-monotonous.

'Carnivore' nice use of choir vocals in a drum and bass track. A tad too many breakdowns in my opinion.
