Bandung, Indonesia has a minor music scene that had been growing since 1990s. When people are head over heels with the nosiness of britpop or britain indie rock, some youngsters in Purnawarman street, at that time, play their guitar with false note and No Wave sloped chord style with a touch of noisiness. Finally, we can identified the orientation of their ears with American alternative indie rock style. From the rise of that minor scene, almost eight years later, Neowax was born as a revivalist, to continue the movement of their scene ancestor.
After passing some promo CD and limited handmade EP, finally they released their debut this year. At first, Neowax was focussed their music to Grandaddy, a new generation of indie rock in America. This process made Neowax more wise in to treat their idols. Finally, Ghost Magic Treat became a very good treatment to their own musicality. The keyword is eclectic. You can find many shocking musical maneuver covered with an aesthetic indie rock music which very kitschy with a lo-fi character, but not sounds cheap. This situation make a judgement like "Sonic Youth-esque" or "No Wave Late-Heroes" become unvalid. I called this band "the-best-indie-rock-band-in-Indonesia". (Gembi)
