Subject: Ugh!
I'd rather watch a full episode of this show, Rather than this, which is the opening intro. I've seen several episodes of "Your Hit Parade" (Sponsored in the early seasons by Lucky Strike cigarettes), and it's much more historically interesting than this commercial. This is another example of everything wrong with the Internet Archive, Over 200 old TV commercials but only 50-something actual TV broadcasts. Now, can somebody PLEASE upload some episodes of the show itself (Which are, BTW, Public domain).

Subject: And coming up, The Ed Sullivan Show, with your sponsor, Ed Sullivan Beer!
Very very VERY interesting commercial here, looks to be a promo for the classic show, Your Hit Parade but unbeknowest to me, that their sponsor was Toni Hair Coloring, and something called Your Hit Parade Cigarettes!! Wow, never knew that. I think that must be the ultimate of a sponsor and tv show merchandising. According to the web, Lucky Strike sponsored YHP Wonder the true history behind this!!

Subject: An Oldie but Goodie
A slick introduction to a TV show called ÂYour Hit Parade, probably from the late 50Âs right after the introduction of color TV. Hit Parade started on the radio, switched to TV in the fifties and lasted until 1959. From the sound of the music played in this intro, the hits played were geared for a middle-aged audience. This doesnÂt seem like a show that approved of rock and roll. The sponsors were the now long-gone Hit Parade cigarettes and Âeven waving Toni Permanents. You could smoke and give yourself a perm using ToniÂs Âdouble-easy applicator while listening to AmericaÂs most popular songs, chosen by the Hit Parade survey. Stodgy as the show probably was, this intro is wonderfully shot. Musical instruments, a jukebox, sheet music and a microphone are shot in close ups or time-lapse photography. If you watch the film with the sound off (so you donÂt have to hear the tedious announcer), the sequence of images looks almost avant-garde.

Subject: Great!
A frenetic, insane intro piece for the 50's pop music countdown show, brought to you by Hit Parade brand cigarettes--"for the tobacco that's hip, and the taste you want"! Great abstract visuals, and an absurdly unwieldy jingle. Imagine having to set these words to music:
"Top tunes all over America, as determined by your Hit Parade surveys, that checks the best-sellers in sheet music, and phonograph records, the songs most played on the automatic coin machines, and the songs most heard on the air; an accurate, authentic tabulation of America's tastes in popular music: Your Hit Parade!"
Yes, those are the lyrics. Sounds like they were written by the legal department.
