CD-RCD-R - Concentration (2004)

try new player!embedding and help

CD-R is the noisey future of russian youth. With their ep "Concentration" the listener is submerged in a nocturnal corridor of machine hum with the only respite being a blast of radio static and lofi noise played at over saturated levels. Then CD-R goes beneath audible levels to further destroy your subconscious mind. A pleasant operation is guaranteed.

"Project CD-R started in December 2002(Moscow) by Nikita Golyshev and Stas Bobkin.

The first unofficial self-released album was "CD-RW", which was a fusion of glitch and digital noise and included remix on "Pin Skeeling" by Mira Calix (this track was played on radio, in From Russia With Love program).

The second("Signal System") album was limited to 20 copies and almost sold out during the live set in "Dom" Cultural center in April 2003. Since that time CD-Rs (we name all our releases like that :) ) you can find at "Misteria Zvuka" shop on underground station Bagrationovskaia (Moscow).

With the help of Alexei Borisov CD-R have made few perfomances in "Dom" with such artists as FRUITS, Alexei Borisov, Ivan Sokolovsky, Michael Gendreau, Jeffery Surak, Franz Pomassl etc. during the period from 2003 to 2004.

We're making music using everything that can make interesting sound (and everything that we can record on PC or sampler) -- broken vinyl, tv-programs, sountracks, self-made acoustic instruments, old tapes and destroyed (or plugged into different stuff like VHS-camera) cables and many other funny things. We also use Korg ES-1 (sampler), microKorg (syntesizer/vocoder), Unost-21 (old soviet digital synthesizer), Lel PSR (soviet drum-machine), different analog guitar and effect procesors (for example Flanger Lel), and some software like Reactor, AudioMulch, Crusher X, etc. So we can make music in wide rangeof styles from glitch and drone to harsh and power noise (we like to combine these styles in one track or live set).

Right now we're making some kind of fusion of digital and harsh noise. This isn't full description of our style, but the shortest :) Actually, we don't know exactly what kind of noise-music we make (we don't think that is so important). The mixture of styles helps us to make our thoughts and feelings understandable to listeners and make our sound quite original and individual."

Subject: Scary

Two of these songs actually scare the shit out of me with their extraordinary loud buzzes, screeches and cut up voices. (Illness and Feeling Sad) the rest just hums and drones and the atmosphere is bleak and quite mysterious. I do like it, though it's not something I could listen to every day. I haven't listened to it a lot either, so maybe eventually my star rating will become higher. For now, the 3 will do. If you're into dark, scary and weird... get it.

Subject: Old school

I wouldn't doubt that this was made in the eighties if someone tried to fool me. Primitive, bleak and monotonous drones, cut up voices and earspliting mayhem. If your into old RRR cassettes you'll love this!

Imagine being locked up in a soft cell. And the doctors put medicine in you and this on the speakers. Maybe that's why a track is called Feeling Sad and another Illness. These tunes are made to influence you and your mind. But take control yourself and listen to the tracks.
