Plant very shallow, about 1 foot apart. They prefer plenty of sunlight, but will do well in partial shade. Do not use any fertilizerfs or ma- nures. Any kind of good garden soil is suitable, H. A. When planting cover the rhigomes very lightly, not over one inch. If they appear dry and withered, they will grow, but given very little water until growth begins, do not over water, they will not stand much watering even when growing vigorously. The tuberous rooted varieties should be plant- ed about five inches deep in well drained soil. DAHLIA VARIETIES Jack Rose .25 Elsie Burgess 25 D. M. EVERGREENS The Evergreen is the one tree that nature has given man to typify eternal promise — the prom- ise that spring shall always come again. As Mr. Hill, the evergreen specialist says: ‘'An Evergreen is like an old friend — the stress of years — the strife of a lifetime only makes richer his noble character. So is a home surrounded by many ever- greens like a man surrounded by many friends. There is a great difference in evergreens. There are varieties that are raised from seed very easily and grow fast, while other rare varieties as Koster Blue Spruce must be grafted and requires ten to a dozen years to make a salable tree. This difference alone stands for a great difference in price. The prices in this catalog are for trees balled and bur- laned and where convenient we will set same.
