Esther Chapter
7
Est 7:1 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther
the queen.
Vs 1 This is the second banquet of Esther. She had invited the king and Haman to
a banquet, to make her petition known. Haman is thrilled to be at this banquet, but
he still can’t figure just why he had to honor Mordecai, the man whom he wanted to hang.
Est 7:2 And the king said again unto Esther on
the second
day at the banquet of wine, What is thy
petition, queen Esther?
and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy
request? and it
shall be performed, even to the half of the
kingdom.
Vs 2 The king offers Esther, his queen, half the kingdom if she will make her petition
known. He wants her to know that she can trust him and be comfortable in asking.
This is the third time he has asked for her petition to be made known.
Est 7:3 Then Esther the queen
answered and said, If I have
found favour in thy
sight, O king, and if it please the king, let
my life be given me at my petition, and my
people at my request:
Est 7:4 For we are
sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to
be slain, and to perish. But if we had been
sold for bondmen and
bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy
could not
countervail the king's damage.
Vs3,4 Esther makes her petition known. She is asking for her life and the lives of her
people. She states that she would not have spoken if her people had been sold
into slavery, but she had to speak up because her people were going to be executed.
Remember, the king does not know her nationality, she has kept this
a secret, until now.
Est 7:5 Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto
Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is
he, that durst
presume in his heart to do so?
Vs 5 Esther, who is going to be executed as well, has revealed her heart. The king
wants to know just exactly who has made such a threat to his queen. The thought
of his queen being executed, surprises the king. He did not know that the decree
to have the Jews killed would also be a death sentence unto his queen.
Est 7:6 And Esther said, The adversary and
enemy
is this wicked Haman.
Then Haman was afraid before
the king and the queen
Vs 6 Esther tells the king “that the enemy is that wicked Haman”. It was Haman, who
had wanted Mordecai and all of the Jews to be executed. It was Haman, who
had paid money into the treasury and was given the kings ring to make a decree
with. Haman is guilty on all charges.
Est 7:7 And the king arising from the banquet
of wine in
his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood
up to make request for his life to Esther the
queen; for he
saw that there was evil determined against him
by the king.
Vs 7 The king is very angry and runs out of the banquet hall and into the garden to
think. Remember, it was the kings ring that signed this decree, so, the king is
somewhat guilty himself, of ordering his own queen to die. He feels as if his
trusted friend Haman, has mislead and betrayed him. Haman, while the king is in
the garden, gets down on his knees before the queen and begs for his life. This
wicked Haman was going to execute all of the Jewish peoples with no
compassion and yet when it comes to his life, he pleads for mercy from one he
was going to kill
Est 7:8 Then the king returned out of the
palace garden
into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen
upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the
king, Will he
force the queen also before me in the house? As
the word went
out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
Vs 8 As the king comes back in from the garden, he notices Haman begging for his
life. Haman is begging so hard that he begins to pull himself upon the couch
where Esther is sitting. Haman was thought to be forcing the queen upon the
couch. The king cried out and as he spoke the kings chamberlains covered
Haman’s face.
Est 7:9 And Harbonah,
one of the chamberlains, said
before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty
cubits high,
which Haman had made
for Mordecai, who had spoken
good for the king, standeth
in the house of Haman. Then
the king said, Hang him thereon.
Est 7:10 So they hanged Haman
on the gallows that he had
prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath
pacified.
Vs 9,10 One of the kings chamberlains also told the king of the gallows, which Haman
had built, for Mordecai. The king responds “Hang Haman on the gallows at
once”. So Haman was hanged on the gallows, he had prepared for Mordecai, and
the kings wrath was pacified. God has intervened, and spared Mordecais life. The
scriptures teach us (Gal 6:7) “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever
a man soweth, that shall he aslo reap”. Psalm 9:16 says “The wicked is snared in the
work of his own hands”. My friend, you may feel that you have a need to go after
someone and try to cause them hurt. But God will bring you down instead. God will
be the judge and not you. He will cause your own plans to be turned into your defeat.
