The Mohammedans, though forcing them to live in separate quarters, have always been more kindly disposed toward the Jews than have other Gentiles. In the French protectorate of Tunisia there are over 59,000 Jews, of whom about 27,000 live in the city of Tunis. The French have provided schools of a special kind for the Jewish children. 220
