How often have you muttered, "This should be easy to identify, " only to be thwarted after a noble effort at the key in Britton & Brown, Gray’s, or even Newcomb's? Here is your chance to bring in a specimen (fresh, pressed, or photo V. of that mystery plant you've been puzzling over. Common or 'unusual, showy or obscure, our renowned team of botanists will attempt to Name That Plant. Or perhaps you have an example of 'an unusual color, form, growth pattern or other plant oddity to share. (Trying to stump the experts will only be allowed in the interest of furthering their scientific knowledge.) But we still have several excellent trips planned for the coming months. Join us! September 29 - Stillwell Woods and the Greenbelt Trail Leader: Andy Greller (Joint trip with Torrey Botanical Club) . Meet at 10:00 am in the parking lot of Stillwell Woods Preserve, South Woods Rd., Syosset (by the soccer fields across from Syosset High School) . We will botanize Stillwell Woods in the morning, break for lunch, and hike the Greenbelt Trail toward Cold Spring Harbor in the afternoon. October 5 - Caumsett State Park, Lloyd Harbor Leaders : Eric and Mary Laura Lamont From Route 25A in Huntington, take 'West Neck Rd. north; follow it all the way to the park entrance on the left. Meet at 10:00 am for an early autumn hike stressing the composites, including the asters and goldenrods . Mary Laura will also share her knowledge of the history of Caumsett.
