I may be wrong, but I feel very strongly that we have all to go through that stage in one way or another before we turn to the work of discriminating that which is of use, that which lives after we are dead, and that which really matters, and the answer echoes from land and sea. The only thing of use is that which helps others, the only deeds that live are noble and self-sacrificing ones, the only thing that matters is G-od's work, whether we help that or hinder that. These distinctions take a long time to discriminate, and for this reason we work on life after life until discrimination is not needed, for we know and can do no other. There are more instances of remembrances of past lives than most of us are aware of, and if we are on the look-out for signs, they are not very hard to seek. How often do we find a recognition when two people meet possibly for the " first time ". How often do we find that we ii know " some one that we have u just met," that we understand an acquaintance of a day better than the friends of long years' standing. How often are members of a large family almost strangers, one amongst them being altogether different as if the mother hen had hatched a duckling amongst the chickens, and how often
