GENERAL REMARKS He CROWN of a plant is where the new a} buds form on the plant, and in September they are fully grown so they will start new growth the following spring on the first approach of warm weather. It is important that Peonies, Phlox and Platycodon should be planted at the right depth, and instructions should be followed. During the winter T have most of my new Iris, and other plants, heeled in sand in my storage cellar, and can ship to warmer sections of the U.S. as early in the spring as desired. If an order is to go by parcel post‘ and more is added than to cover postage, the unused bal- ance will be returned or ext-a stock added as desired. No plant will endure mere than the Iris, and will relate my experiences with one shipment to New Zealand as an example. On the 20th of September, last year, | packed an order in “bone dry’ excelsior, and they were returned twice from San Francisco through an errcr of the Postmaster there. They were then placed in an open shed during the winter, and planted April 20th. Nearly every plant grew, and some of them are in bloom now—June 15th. T am located one and one-half miles north of Kasson, and 17 miles west of Rochester, Minn. Auto bus from Mantorville meets all trains at Kasson, and passes by my nursery. The iris C. A. Pfeiffer in the center, The standards of this iris are blue, but they appear white here. SCHM|DT PRINTING COMPANY.
