In the Year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Eighty-five. AN ACT To aid in the suppression of Contagious Diseases among; Domestic Animals. - Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and. by the authority of the same, as follows : 1 Section 1. Whoever has knowledge of the ex- 2 istence of a contagious disease among any species 3 of domestic animals in this State, whether such 4 knowledge is obtained by examination or other- 5 wise, shall forthwith give notice thereof to the 6 board of aldermen of the city, or the selectmen 7 of the town where such diseased animals are 8 kept, and for failure so to do, shall be punished 2 CONTAGIOUS DISEASES. [Mar. '85. 9 by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars, or 10 by imprisonment in jail not exceeding one year. 1 Sect. 2. The board of aldermen of a city, 2 or the selectmen of a town, having received 3 notice of a contagious disease among domestic 4 animals in their city or town, shall forthwith 5 inform the board of cattle commissioners of the 6 existence of such contagious disease. 1 Sect. 3. Section three of chapter ninety of 2 the Public Statutes is hereby amended so as to 3 read as follows : They may cause all such ani- 4 mals, except those infected with glanders or 5 farcy, to be appraised by three competent and 6 disinterested men, under oath, at the value there- 7 of at the time of the appraisement, and the 8 amount of the appraisement shall be paid as pro- 9 vided in section one ; and they shall cause all ani- 10 mals infected with glanders or farcy to be killed 11 without appraisement, but may pay the owner an 12 equitable sum for the killing and for any reason- 13 able expense incurred by such owner for the burial 14 thereof. 1 Sect. 4.
