SENATE BPLL A BILL To authorize 'payment for horses taken hj the enefny, or taken from the oivncrs by impressment for the, pubU& service. 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That when an^ oftfccr 2 or private in the actual service of this state, whether in tlie volun- 3 teer or militia force, having a horse or horses in possession and in 4 the like service, which horse or horses have been heretofore or may o be hereafter taken by the enemy, the same having been valued as 6 prescribed by the army regulations, or where this has not been done, 7 the value having been ascertained by satisfactory evidence, such 8 officer or private sh*all be entitled to receive such valuation, and the 9 same shall be audited by the auditing board established for the set- 10 tlement of military claims, and if found- to Ik5 properly substap- 11 tiated, shall be paid as other claims are paid when allowed by said 12 -board. 2. When any horse or horses shall have been heretofore or shall 2 be hereafter impressed by competent authority for actual service of 3 the military forces of this state, during the continuance of the 4 present war, and the same shall not be returned to the owner within 2 Bill No. 17. 5 six months from the time of impressment, the said ovrner (by pro- 6 ducing the certificate of valuation required by law to be given him, 7 or if none such shall have been given, by proving the value of such 8 horse or horses at the time^of impressment, by satisfactory evidence) 9 may present his claim, and the same shall be audited by the said 10 auditing board, and if allowed, shall be paid as other claims are 11 paid by their order. 3.
