PREFACE.

Public utility, and the advancement of sci-
ence, are the great objects of all cabinets ; every
method, therefore, which may promote these
ends, should be adopted.

It is in furtherance of this opinion that the
present arrangement has* been made; for a cabi-
net especially an Anatomical one, can be of lit-
tle benefit to the student, unless its pieces be
methodised and explained.

In the adoption of the following arrangement,

reference has been chiefly had to convenience;

scientific distinctions have therefore been less

niled than natural connection and facility of

The object of publication is, accommodation
to students, that they may see what tiie collec-
tion contains, and know what they see. For the

same cause. Death ensued in three hours.

exposing an ulcer, which having eroded the inter-
mediate parietes, affords a direct opening from the
