A PORTABLE INSTRUMENT FOR FUMIGATING Green-houses, Frames, Dwellings, Ships, Closets, Wardrobes, &c., or Shrubs, Flowers, and all kinds of Plants inthe Open Air, without injury to the most delicate, DELIVERING THE SMOKE IN A COOL, DENSE MASS. The instrument is of most easy application ; the substance to be used for fumiga- tion being placed in the magazine at top, and.ignited with/a match or paper. It is so light that it ean be carried about and used by a lady without inconvenience. All that is necessary, is to introduce the pipe into an aperture in the door of a green-house, and, by turning the handle, it will soon be filled with smoke. Nor is the machine less effective in the open air ; for the smoke, being concentrated to a point, and made to issue in any required direction, the whole force of the instrumént can be brought to bear on any par- ticularly affected part. A great deal of tobacco may be saved by placing the plant under a paper tent, or some other temporary covering, during the operation. The instrument is also available for fumigating apiaries, or houses and ships, when infested by insects; with it, also, rooms and closets may be scented by burning lavender or other aromatic herbs.
