Nitecki Associate Curator, Fossil Invertebrates AND Julia Golden Custodian of Types NOVEMBER 24, 1970 PUBLICATION 1111 Library of Congress Catalog Card Number: 70-1 S 8288 PRINTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA EY FIELD MUSEUM PRESS TABLE OF CONTENTS PAGE Introduction 1 Catalogue of types 3 Catalogue of casts 83 References 106 Index of species 114 INTRODUCTION This is the sixth catalogue of types and referred specimens of in- vertebrate fossils housed with the collections of Field Museum of Natural History. The previous groups catalogued were foraminifers, radiolarians and eurypterids, sponges, conodonts, and ostracodes (Nitecki, 1961, 1963, 1965; Nitecki and Richardson, 1967, and Ni- tecki and Handler, 1968). The present paper lists the specimens and the artificial casts of trilobites deposited with the collections of the Walker Museum of Paleontology of the University of Chicago, now on permanent loan to Field Museum, and specimens in Field Mu- seum collections. The depository and the number of the original fossil from which the casts were taken is indicated when known. Consistent with the previous catalogues, only holotypes are recog- nized as valid types; all other so-called types are listed as referred specimens. The specimens that belong to the University of Chicago are prefixed UC; the Field Museum fossils bear the prefix P or PE. The entries are listed in their original form and are arranged alpha- betically by genera and within each genus alphabetically by species. An attempt has been made to note all the published changes of names. When specimens in addition to ours were used for the orig- inal descriptions, their location, if known, is indicated. Stratigraphic positions, geographic data, and catalogue numbers are listed as they appear in the Museum files, and are supplemented by the information published by respective authors. The sources of specimens and names of collectors or collections are given for most specimens. Specimens known as lost are listed as such; however, type specimens not located at the present time are omitted. Financial support for this work was provided in part by the National Science Foundation Grant No. GB-7197.
