During the Winter Quarter, 2003, NUPUI^E surveyed 760 f ull- tixne undergraduates to determine their attitudes and opinions about the September 2003, conversion from a quarter calendar to a semester calendar.
"All things considered, I think it is a good idea that NU is converting to semesters."
Freshman Sophomore Mlddler Junior
Over half the students in each year agreed that it is a good idea to convert to a semester calendar. However, upperclass students were less likely to hold this position.

Dear Class of 2004:
As graduates taking part in Northeastern's 102nd commencement exercises, you will always hold a special place in your university's remarkable history. Thanks in large measure to all of your accomplishments and successes, Northeastern has continued to rise to heightened levels of competitiveness, progress that should serve you well in the years to come. With pride and pleasure, on behalf of the faculty and trustees, I congratulate you on reaching this milestone in your life and wish you every success on the journey that lies ahead.
As you leave Northeastern, I hope you see your time here as the beginning of your learning, not the end. There will always be more to know, deeper levels of understanding and higher levels of performance to attain. Keep growing and searching for knowledge, because to stop learning is, in a real sense, to stop living.
I hope you will seek wisdom and compassion even as you pursue knowledge and skill. As you discover, make use of your discoveries. As you learn, teach. As you succeed, share. What you have acquired during your years here can make your community— and all the world— a better place.
I hope, too, that you will keep a place in your heart for Northeastern. You have earned a permanent place among us. We want to be a continuing part of your life and your growth. You are joining generations of graduates, linked to one another throughout the past century. With you now in the vanguard, this University, this family of Northeastern, will flourish anew in the years to come.
Sincerely,
$ fin fakJ

wimpy body contest
Gr&t HftHlHlCrGCl rlat'*™<"ii
Let's get Hammered!! No, I don't mean drunk beyond oblivion. Hammered is an organization started at Northeastern two years ago by senior Ken Proccacianti.
Proccacianti created Hammered as an alter-
native to the usual drinking and partying that college students seem to be infamous for. Instead, students are invited to attend or compete in the "Wimpy Body Contest" or take part in the festivities on Halloween.

omecoming at other schools might be exciting; there might be a marching band, kegs on the front lawn, and of course, the guys without shirts on with letters painted across their chests. But at Northeast ^: ern, "we've got all the crazies and then some. ^1 No moment at any other college beats

"Delta Triton is made up of many individuals who, though different in almost every aspect, share the same goals and aspirations of making the college experience the best opportunity of their adult lives. Each member prides himself in participating in other organizations or groups outside of the fraternity but hold Theta Delta Chi as a life long commitment, which they will always serve just as the organization will always serve them

"They believed that each po- tential member should be judged on his own merits rather than his family back- ground or affluence... with- out regard of race, national- ity, color, skin tone or texture of hair. They wished and wanted their fraternity to exist as a part of an even greater brotherhood-sister- hood which would be devoted to the "inclusive we" rather than the "exclusive we" From its inception, the founders also conceived Phi Beta Sigma as a mechanism to deliver services to the general ommunity. Rather than gaining skills to be utilized exclusively for themselves and their imme- diate families, the founders of Phi Beta Sigma held the deep conviction that they should re- turn their newly acquired skills to the communities from which they had come. This deep conviction was mirrored in the fraternity motto, 'Cul- ture For Service and Service For Humanity.'"

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is witH heavy Hearts tKat we leave Northeastern in the context of this years events, and with outgoing sympathy that we recognize the loss of these
extraordinary students.

To the Class of 2004:
If I was a woman of few words, which sometimes I wish I was, I would very simply quote a predecessor and say of this entire experience: "I'd never do it again" (Rick Howland, 1970 Cauldron). Of course, he also thanked his wife. Obviously the two of us have nothing in common.
Last year, as I sat in the same seat I sit in now, I wrote to seniors of their accomplishments, and their admirable demeanoi in all that they did. Now, I'm one of those seniors. And though I feel the same way about my peers - there is something els to be said of memory and sentiment that I could not possibly know last year, something about leaving this place that plays every memory as a still shot in my mind. There is an emotion attached that wasn't before, a collection of memories upon every footstep across this campus. Memories I have shared with many of you, and for those memories - 1 cannot express m gratitude in deserving words. Those of you I have met over the years, I am forever in debt to you, for you have taught me the most raw and pure humanity.
I could not have hand-picked a better class of people to graduate with (even though you might say I did, because I'm graduating a year early). We are the most driven and ambitious I have encountered yet, the most kind and giving, and the most aware of our place in the world. We are the people who have spent the last four years eating dessert before dinner, who wear flip flops and shorts at the first sign of a sunny day in March, and had to buy a suit before any of our friends ever knew what an interview was. Because no matter how many frigid winters we complained our way through, that first sign o Spring was always worth the whole thing. We're the people who leap before looking and we've always been those people. We came to a school that allowed us into the real world before we finished our sophomore year, because we just couldn't wait to get out there. We are the people who are determined and focused on what we're doing when we walk out of the Fleet Center on May 1st, 2004. The kind of people we are have more confidence than others, have more ambition than others, and have more drive than others. We're sure as hell not afraid to get our hands dirty to get what we want, because we know that anything worth having doesn't just get handed over to you. We bring our own sunshine. We don't complain that a mountain's too high to climb, because for us, the getting there is what makes it worth it. I, as you should be, am honored, blessed, and proud to be a member of Northeastern's graduating Class of 2004.
There is so much to be grateful for, so much to consider ourselves blessed for. We can be thankful for the firm but gentle hand that Northeastern was - guiding, not dragging. A watchful eye that never said, "This is how it's done," but rather let | figure it out on our own. A parent that gave us all the information we needed to make a good decision on our own, and knew that letting us make that decision was a lesson in itself. A knowing smile that pushed us out into the world while we weren't looking, assured we would come out on top.
We have so much to be proud of. We graduated from a school that gave us everything we need to succeed in the world: Value, strength, confidence, worth and courage. And whether you were studying equations or presidents, we have the two most important things a person can develop: personality and character. We leave here with an extreme pride in whom andi what we will be associated with in future years.
Always remember wherever you may go in future years, that you have a voice in you that sets you apart from other people. Realize that you will not always be as blessed to be surrounded by such enthusiasm and energy, and that it is your responsibility to inspire that kind of enthusiasm and energy, and to create that voice in others.
I wish each and every one of you the very best with every ounce of my heart. I believe you have the strength in you to make everything you take issue with a better situation. I believe that you are the best and the brightest of this world, and you have been handed all of the tools to create a smoother road for the future. It's gonna get bumpy, and the wind's gonna blow — but I'm up for it if you are.
I truly hope that all of you in your lifetime will be able to do something like making this book. To create something of your own ideas, mold it into exactly what you pictured, and ultimately have something tangible and solid in your hands to be as proud of as I have been of this has been an experience I wouldn't trade for all of the hours of other things I missed. It has taught me more about myself and the people around me than anything else ever could. Through all of the 14 hour days starting at one in the afternoon, the tightest schedule I ever could have imagined in college, and all of the "I can't come out yet, I'm in the office'"s to friends calling from bars - this was truly an education in the ways of the world. Like my best friend says, "Go big, or go home." I definitely went big. And it was worth it.
There are some things which are simple and can be expressed in just a few words. It's my opinion that those things are boring. And if you know me, you know I don't do boring. Thank you, Northeastern - for never being boring.
With my sincere gratitude, respect, and admiration,
Marissa E. Hussey
