Meeting The Challenge
In the fall of 1997, a gi'otip of freshman be- gan their journey through Maryville Col- lege. They were nervous about the challenges, however, they were ex- cited about their new op- portunities.
They were ready for whatever Maryville Col- lege had in store for them.
Now, four years later, that same group of stu- dents are proud to call themselves seniors. Dur- ing their time here they have
made many new friend- ships, had many unfor- gettable experiences, and have grow both mentally and spiritually. This group of students has conquered the long and tedious way to the top. They stand proud in the
confidence that they have built for themselves. These stuents are now ready to face the world and all of the challenges; priveleges, and experi- ences their lives have tc offer. By: Erika L. Gheen
Let's Celebrate!
Luke Herron, Katherine Best, and Elizabeth McKnight celebrate

Looking to the Future
In The Third Year
In the fall of 1998, the Junior class embarked on their college adventure. Each step they have taken over the years has brought them to their ultimate goal- GRADUATION! This jourev has included times of both triumph and tribu- lation; each new challenge presenting an opportunity for growth and learning. Marvville College has fos- tered these opportunities through the tenets of its Covenant: Scholarship, In- tegrity, and Respect. These values have become an in- tegral part of every aspect of each student's life and will always be with them. Juniorsare looking to the fu- ture.

In the Second Year...
Two years ago in 1999, the Sophomore class began their journey at Maryville College. Adjusting to this new lifestyle. Sophomores learned what was required of them to survive their first years. They have discov- ered the freedom and reponsibility that comes with college. Thev have learned how to prioritize their time between all of the academic and social activities available to them.
As Sophomores move through their time here at
Maryville, they internalize the key elements of the cov- enant, which lie at theheart of Maryville College's philoso- phy. These elements are scholoarship, integrity, and re- spect.
In 2003, the Sophomore class will leave Maryville Col- lege behind, and begin the next stage of their journey. As the years pass the philosophy of MC will be adopted by the Class of 2003, and as their next journey arises they will take with them this philosophy.
These friends take time to relax on a weekend away from school. Pictured in the back row is Krista Smith, J. Ben Wicker, Scott Bumbalough, and James Ashley. Standing in the front row is LeeAnn Godbey, Jessica Foster, and Abbie Hammond.
Sophomore D'Lisa Hopewell looks beautiful as she waits for the Homecoming Parade to begin.
Cheyanne Hurley shows her friend Amber Harris a little love as they smile for the camera.

Highland Wrestling Club
The Hightland Wrestling Club became functional in October of 1999. Corey Ekrut, Kenneth Kirby, and
David Ruble were the driving force behind this great organization. The club practices in the gym at
Maryville High School. Their first event of the season was titled "Midnight Matness," the wrestlers
began at midnight on a Friday and continued to wrestle for fourteen hours. The Highlanders have
taken on such clubs as Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Pensacola Christian College, Tennessee
Temple University, and University of Tennessee. The president of the Highlanders stated, "The first
year is always rough, but we will perservere." David ensures that the club will become a power house.

The Maryville College Equestrian Team consists of twelve members ranging from freshmen to seniors, and riding at various skill levels. Team members include: Catherine Ashe, Jessica Buckner, Mandy Calkins, Lindsay Craig, Jennifer Hammonds, Nathan Higdon, Cyndi Lyle, Dori Mackay, Leigh Ann McDowell, Sara Moore, Catherine Webb, and PattyWoodruff.
The team competes in eight Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) hosre shows per year in which it rides against schools such as UT, UK, Morehead State University, University of the South, and Midway College. It also rides in various local horse shows throughout the year. The team was started in 1995 by Maryville College alumnus Christen Khym, who both coached and rode on the team. Sarah Owen also coaches the team.
The MCET has shown impressive growth in both size and experience since its inception. A major accomplishment was the team's hosting of its first IHSA horse show in March 2001. Team members ride at a privately owned barn located fifteen minutes from campus in Rockford. The team rides horses owned by both coaches and private owners.
