The upper surface of the bulb should show above the soil. After pot- ting, water thoroughly and place in a dark, cool cellar, covered up with sand or ashes until well rooted; this generally takes from two to three months, Glass Culture—Fill the glass so that the base of the bulb will just touch the water and set away in a cool, dark place until well rooted. Change the water frequently. A Hyacinth Glass, such as shown on page 2, should be used. Outdoor Culture—Plant in October or early No- vember, about 6 inches apart and 5- inches deep. Cover the bed with straw, leaves or short manure during the winter. They appear just after the snow and ice of winter and enliven our gardens and lawns. Nothing can excel the beauty and chastity of their blooms, and they have the advantage of being good for an unlimited number of seasons, if planted out in sonve spot where they can be allowed to mature their foliage. They are perfectly hardy and with- stand severe winters without protection. Should be given the same treatment as recommended for Hyacinths, either for indoor or outdoor cultivation.
