People like Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra performed here over the years. In 1953, the movie "From Here To Eternity" premiered with Sinatra and Ava Gardner in attendance. --The Iao actually closed in the mid 1900's because of neglect. It was rejuvenated and serves these days mainly for theater productions. --Tim Stiegler did a great job of helping the DNB sound shine. Although cymbal crashes can be a bit loud at times from where we were sitting. --This recording is a cleaned up version of the original seed on etree back in 2014. For this, the screams, whoops, whistles have been cleaned up as much as possible. --If you prefer the original raw files, they are available on the Live Archive, otherwise, enjoy this edit. --As always, take it if you need it, if not just pass it on" Aloha from Maui, nassau73 nassau73 NOTES (2014): --So much to say about this show. --First - set 2 segment of Suite At the Mission - Rainmaker - Into the Mystic was absolutely stellar. The harmonies in this hall just resonated SO MUCH that almost all of the talkers and chatterers shut up and listened and swayed to the music. --The Iao theater is cavernous. I've never been able to pull a nice audio recording from this venue. However, Tim Stiegler (soundman) made this the very best recording I've been able to get at the Iao. Even so, I don't know if it truly captures the magic of the above mentioned sequence. All I know is you could see the satisfaction in David's demeanor after they played. --My wife also commented - Mookie sounded absolutely great. I don't know what else to say about this show except that I love watching and hearing the different drummers that play as part of the Hawaii tour each year and Wally Ingram just blew me away at every show. --Now - moving along, the story is that the Iao is haunted. To play along (unfortunately, I already stopped recording at the end of the show) Mark ended the night dressed up as Dracula and gave the final exit message and left the stage in a coffin :-) --Mark also introduced the show giving a history of the Iao. This is included in the intro on this recording. Just so ya know - Iao Theater was an interesting and intimate venue for this concert. It's a 350 seat Theater and was opened in 1928 as a vaudeville and movie house. During World War II, people like Bob Hope and Frank Sinatra entertained the troops here (according to Wikipedia). --Now - DNB and Tim Stiegler made this venue realize its true potential :-) Aloha from Maui nassau73 vanillag NOTES (8/23/2022): --Super BIG Thank you to nassau73 for recording & sharing this beauty & to the extra work he put into post-production in 2022 to make it even nicer for us all!! Sounds terrific...Aloha!! --I fixed the date & venue within this text file to the proper info & added more detail to the venue info --I added more info to the band members --created an md5 checksum file --some song corrections toward how they appear on the original albums --added the ffp fingerprints to the text file --added some pics of the venue ffp: dnb 2014-01-18 -01.flac:3c9db59ff9b6836b19a086d80877bd29 dnb 2014-01-18 -02.flac:dd91ef69edd9fa818b32b6078434384b dnb 2014-01-18 -03.flac:9b7c5cc5f8c48a2943c552c8bc5cd327 dnb 2014-01-18 -04.flac:024dc4bc96ceabeb73d7bfca68910fce dnb 2014-01-18 -05.flac:ff2d6802b49e8d53610fa31187c836f3 dnb 2014-01-18 -06.flac:6ba516f977f18d04bfb16c5cd4500f0c dnb 2014-01-18 -07.flac:38d7d49f5e0335ac5d8db7d92499adab dnb 2014-01-18 -08.flac:e9dba07cbd1c21a212d34c9581662dfd dnb 2014-01-18 -09.flac:a3274a4420094e809761066df6cd11fa dnb 2014-01-18 -10.flac:cabf393768a3ad618d71040c82f01ce3 dnb 2014-01-18 -11.flac:35e2fd9ea90a6b727f19380d7d70ee0b dnb 2014-01-18 -12.flac:06dab9d9c9bb0a4cf4bc1aec714a68fe dnb 2014-01-18 -13.flac:1878da96cda08bb54e6f5d6d6e0296d1 dnb 2014-01-18 -14.flac:1a6602a225017c27ce2c785a2b43abf4 dnb 2014-01-18 -15.flac:03d11758383b08c16842431225744f26
