TO BUTCH SHERRILL . . .

Butch Sherrill has been a

dedicated soul to QC and its

students. An alumnist who

achieved status as the school's

Chaplain, head of Student Affairs,

Head of the Alumni and advisor

to the Student Christian

miss him terribly.

"During the past four years I

have had the distinct pleasure of

not only knowing Mr. Sherrill, but

of working closely with him

A TRIBUTE TO

At the start of the 1989-90 school year, the athletic department was seriously considering changing the school's mascot. The yearbook staff decided to pay tribute to GC's Hornet no matter what the decision may be. The Hornets sports team originated in 1967 when Greensboro College first took part in intercollegiate sports. The Hornet's Nest was also established at this time. Back in 1959, right after Greensboro College became co- educational, there were four intramural teams. One of the teams and the best team was named the Hornets. The school ended up choosing the mascot in replica of that intramural team.

BLIZZARD OF BUCKS

The game show "Blizzard of Bucks"

visited the Stu this past fall. Students

did a variety of fun and crazy stunts,

such as putting baby bibs and bonnets

on and seeing who could drink a

bottle of O.J. the fastest. In the end,

Lorraine Romiti won the chance to go

in a booth and grab as much money

as she could Lorraine won over $100

HOT BODIES

The Lip Sync Contest held by

the Stu brought out some of QC's

finest talent. Students got to hear

a variety of songs from "Mr.

Sandman" by the Woobies to a

Luther Vandross song sung by

Ken Washington. Ken won first

place by romancing the hearts of

many girls. During the

intermission UAAS held a hot

bodies contest. Charlene Rosey

Musicians performed on campus throughout the year; however, the Spring seemed to be the time when mu- sic memories were made in the "Stu". The weather turning warm early natural- ly led to open doors in the Stu so the music could be heard beyond the con- fines of the building. The variety in mu- sic ranged from guitarists and vocalists such as Robin Greenstein and Michael Francis to high-tech pop-rock musicians Dave Wopat and Carl Rosen.

The Greensboro College men's basketball

team ended their season with a quarter

final 74-71 loss to Methodist College. The

Hornets entered the game fifth in the

Conference, and ended the season with a

15-11 overall record. Kevin Besecker ended

his four year career with 999 points. Kevin,

who averaged 14.6 points per game this

season, came up one point short despite

his 19 point effort in the final game.

Junior Dwayne Morgan and Kevin were on

the All-Conference Honorable Mention

Team.

Senior Jeff Dastmalchian was named to the

first team All-Conference and to the second

team NABC All-District South Team. He

lead the team in scoring, rebounding, and

in field goal percentage. Greensboro

College is sad to hear that this is Coach

Tribbett's and Coach Groninger's last year

the Hornets posted a 18-8 overall

record and a 8-2 mark in the Dixie

Conference and will return eight

players for next season.

Head Coach Lisa Stockton believes

the Lady Hornets have built up a

very competitive program. This is

shown in the outstanding players of

the season. Shelton led the team

and conference with 9.3 rebounds

per game. Other all conference

honorable mentions include: Kim

Qosnell, Jennifer Singer, and

A CHALLENGING SEASON

The 1990 Women's Softball Team practiced long and hard, but faced a tough season. Coach Stockton watched as the team gave the season their all out ef- forts, but met with defeat by more prepared teams. They fin- ished the season with a 6-17 record.

EDITORS PAGE

I would Like to thank my staff and advisor for all their help. You all were great. I would especially like to thank Janine Bracco, my Assistant Editor. Without the creative and quick ideas, we'd be half a book short. 1 also wish Kelly O'Toole and Tammy Fain the best of luck on next year's yearbook. You'll do fine. This year's Echo is a little non-traditional and fun to put together. 1 hope that all of you enjoy it.

Thank you,

Editor
