Is Dedicated In Memory Of

Miss Lakeisha Wilson

I

Written April 9, 1992 By Nathan Higgs, Jr. ••Revised February 15, 1993 in Memory of One of Us

Oh mighty God in heaven, let us all b< appreciative of the pre- cious gift of life that you have granted us. Let us have a space in our hearts for this courageous, attractive, young lady whom you have taken from our presence.

5o often many of us are quick to complain about situations which have no absolute value. We feel as if we have the worst problems. We take for granted the joy of life itself by often abusing its purpose. One may often wonder, Father, why is it that You allow such heartache and pain to occur. Why did a young lady with so much to live for have to leave us so soon? Why must someone as precious as KeJsha have to experierKf pain and struggle just to survive for such a short time. Is it re- ality that many of us never realize the gift of the healthy life which we possess? 1 can say it's a luxury, but for Kcisha it w»s only a far away dream. Only Your children recognize you at our Creator: therefore. Your actions should be accepted rather than questioned.

How can we judge other human beings and decide whether they are acceptable in our society? Therefore, any person who reads this tribute should never take his/her life for granted. Little do we realize that our lives are a simple privilege given by our creator. Just as he gave us the privilege to experience out most recent breath of air, he can make it our last! Life itself is a mystery and we often encounter obstacles, but how many of us can overcome those obstacles that Kcisha encountered?

Class of 1994

We love you and miss you

ELIZABETH CITY. NORTH CAROLINA 27909

OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

(919)335-3230

Dear Class of 1993:

Hail to thee Victorious Ones! Nothing has kept thee from the completion of the tasks of acadamia and we salute thy fortitude and endurance. Now as you stand on the threshold of professional life, the challenges that face you are quite formidable. But your indomitable Viking spirit will enable you to overcome. You will face new vistas; you will explore new terrain; you will succeed in your missions, whatever they may be.

We, whom you leave behind at Elizabeth City State University have only a few simple requests to make as you travel on. First, remember the proud history of the University and pay homage to those that blazed the trail one hundred years ago that you now trod. Second, continue to hone the skills that ECSU has provided you in your stay here. Seek ex- cellence in all that you do, be not content with just getting by. Thirdly, pledge to help your Alma Mater to continue its mission in society, to wit, offering a quality education to all those capable of profiting from academic instruction re- gardless of their ethnic or economic circumstances. Your moral and monetary support is needed for such a mission. Fourthly, always remember, to thine ownself be true. Be the best that you can be, in whatever endeavor.

Faleese, my children, and I, along with the faculty and staff at ECSU, wish you every success. Continue to look for

that "rising star in the northeast" while journeying )ugh life.

Respectfully yours.

Tamba J. Owens, Editor

Tamba Juanette Owens, a native of Gaston, North Carolina, is a Sociology/Social Work Ma- jor with a minor in Criminal Justice. During her college experience she has excelled both academ- ically and in terms of extra-curricular activities. In addition to being editor of the Yearbook Staff, Resident Assistant of Bias Hall and Parliamen- tarian of the Pre-Alumni Club, she is also a member of the Buddy Program and the Social Work Club.

She has not only been on the honor roll, but the Vice Chancellor's and Chancellor's List as well. To maintain this academic excellence, she believes in striving hard each day to accomplish her goals. One of her most recent achievements was becoming a member of The Delta Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incor- porated. However, she knows these accomplish- ments wouldn't be possible without the help of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Although my fellow co-workers and I got off to a slow start, our final product has proven to be worth the wait. Thanks goes out to everyone who participated in the completion of this year- book. Let's not forget, "Anything that comes easy is not worthwhile."

Thank you, Tamba J. Owens

Miss Yearbook 1992-93

A beautiful woman with a beautiful smile.

MOTMEK TO SON i

Well, son. I'll tell you: Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. It's had tacks in it, And splinters. And boards torn up. And places with no carpet on the floor- Bare.

But all the time I'se been a<limbin' on. And reachin' landin's, And turnin' corners. And sometimes goin' in the dark Where there ain't been no light. So boy, don't you turn back. Don't you set down on the steps 'Cause you finds it's kinder hard. Don't you fall now For I'se still goin', honey,

se still climbin'. And life for me ain't been no crystal sta

DESCRIPTION

The Honors Program will include students from various departments and serve the "gifted" stu- dents with high academic potential (as evidenced by SAT scores and other criteria). The program is designed to include "University Honors" and "Departmental Honors" within the macro- structure. Each department of the institution is developing individual criteria for participating in that particular area. The University Honors track is defined as being broad and geared largely toward a liberal education of the "total student," while the departmental track tends to motivate the student's ability in a given area of displayed talent to provide extra stimulus.

PHILOSOPHY

The Honors Program is designed to challenge at an accelerated rate the students with high academic potential and to provide them with ex- posure to a wide variety of in-depth academic, social, and cultural experiences.
