Evergreen tree and halo'd star,
gifts and lights, songs and food.
Bible truth a distance far
from myth and tradition now removed.

Angels sang "Glory to God in the highest,
peace on earth, good will toward men."
Shepherds witnessed the angels and Jesus
just a baby, new born then.
Angels' herald, shepherds' witness,
God's decree of peace with us.

Wise men from the east discerned a star,
hailing the birth of the King of the Jews.
They traveled to Jerusalem and inquired
of Herod the King, and told him the news.
Herod the King raged, and desired
to kill this young child, seen as King of the Jews.
The wise men, in secret, honored the Lord,
and Herod, deceived, unsheathed his sword.
Herod commanded all young children dead,
the wise men and family of young Jesus fled.
Young Jesus and family from Egypt ascended
when Herod the King fell to the grave.
John paved the way, and the Spirit descended,
God brought up His Son, His people to save.
