POT-GROWN
STRAWBERRY
PLANTS.
All the varieties offered are perfect-flowering (bi-sexual) except where marked P. The latter are pistillate and require a row of a perfect-flowering sort
planted every 8 or 10 feet to pollenize their blossoms.
These, if planted in July and August, produce a large crop the next Summer.
Being grown in pots they may be shipped to a distance and planted
with almost no interruption to their growth. The plants may be set in beds of three rows, one foot apart and one foot distant in the rows,
with a space of two and one-half feet between the outside rows of adjoining beds left for a pathway.

Ready August and September.
Abies Delavayi.
NEW FIRS FROM CHINA.
Introduced by the Arnold Arboretum.
Abies Delavayi. This is one of the handsomest of the Silver Fir
family. It is also one of the hardiest known in China. Mr. E. H.
Wilson tells us it is known in China by the name Lien-sha, meaning
Cold Fir, in allusion to the fact that the tree grows in cold regions.
Its upright growth and rich deep green foliage make it rival in
appearance the Yew trees of Europe, and we predict that for lands-
cape purposes this Fir will be used to produce the Yew effects here.
$5.00 each.
Abies recurvata. This Fir is of pyramidal habit. The-rich deep
green foliage resembles that of Abies Delavayi, but is strongly re-
curved, which gives the tree a distinct and pleasing appearance. Mr.
Wilson writes: ‘‘In all respects this species is one of the most desirable
of the family; and it was well worth a long journey to introduce it
into cultivation.’ It has proved perfectly hardy and like A. Delavayi
will be a valuable addition to our trees for landscape planting. $5.00
each.

Picea asperata var. ponderosa.
NEW CHINESE SPRUCES.
Introduced by the Arnold Arboretum.
Picea asperata. A quadrangular-leaved Spruce from northwestern
China. Some of the trees are very glaucous in appearance, hence
the colloquial name. Yun Sha (Cloudy Fir). Old trees are very
spire-like in outline. All the varieties of P. asperata are of dense
growth, and the purplish coloring of the young foliage makes them
strikingly beautiful in the early Summer.
Picea asperata var. notabilis. This variety differs from the pre-
ceding, chiefly in the cones, the scales of which are rhombic-ovate in
outline.
Picea asperata var. ponderosa.

Picea albertiana var.
PICEA albertiana var. conica.
(Illustrated above.) A beautiful, pyramidal evergreen tree of slender proportions. Its density of short
silvery green needles gives it the appearance of a Retinospora, rather than a tree; a rare and valuable plant.

BULBS FOR EARLY FORCING.
Prices Subject to Change Without Notice.
EARLY ROMAN HYACINTHS.
These beautiful Hyacinths are indispensable to the florist in his Autumn
and Winter cut-flower work; while to the amateur they are among the most
easily cultivated and most satisfactory of flowering bulbs. The white variety,
if planted early in September and gently forced, will bloom in November; the
others require from two to three weeks longer. -
When grown in pots or pans they are most effective planted in groups of
six or more bulbs in each.
White. Mammoth. $1.35 per doz.; $12.00 per 100.
POLYANTHUS NARCISSUS.
A very decorative class of bulbous plants for greenhouse and window
cultivation, but not hardy out of doors in our climate. They may be easily
and quickly forced; our florists frequently have them in bloom by Thanks-
giving.
Early Large-Flowering Paper White. The earliest, largest and most
vigorous form of the Paper White; the best of all for very early forcing;
pure white.
Mammoth Bulbs. 75 cts. per doz.; $5.00 per 100; $48.00 per 1,000.
Extra Large Bulbs. 60 cts. per doz.; $4.25 per 100; $40.00 per 1,000.

excellent for early forcing. 465 cts. per doz.; $3.25 per 100; $30.00 per 1,000.
Soleil d’Or. Yellow, with orange cup, an excellent forcing variety. $1.50
per doz.; $12.00 per 100. 2
NARCISSUS JONQUILLA OR JONQUILS.
The delicately graceful forms, delicious fragrance and deep yellow color of
heir blossoms have made the Jonquils favorites. Plant six or eight bulbs
in a six-inch bulb pan, covering the crowns half an inch.
Rugulosus. Rich yellow; very fragrant; the largest Jonquil:fine for cutting.
Beceria) Puy. $4.00 per 100; $38.00 per 1,000.
Campernelle. Large, deep yellow flowers, excellent for cutting. $4.00 per
CALLA LILIES. 100; $38.00 per 1,000.
White Calla. Mammoth Roots. $4.00 per doz.; $30.00 per 100. 3
White Calla. Extra Size Roots. $2.50 per doz.; $20.00 per 100. EF
The Godfrey. Large, pure white flowers; slightly fragrant. 35 cts. each;
$3.50 per doz.
FREESIAS.
The gracefully branched, fragrant flowers are of long duration, and being
freely produced are profitable for commercial purposes, and satisfactory to
amateurs. If planted early they may be had in bloom by Christmas. Plant
eight or ten bulbs in a six-inch bulb pan, covering them one inch.
Purity, Mammoth Bulbs. 65 cts. per doz.; $5.00 per 100; $45.00 per 1,000.
Extra Large Bulbs. 50 cts. per doz.; $3.50 per 100; $32.00 per 1,000.
Fardel’s Colored Freesias. In separate shades. Lavender, Yellow,
Pink, Orange. $1.25 per doz.; $9.00 per 100.
Mixed Colors. $1.00 per doz.; $7.00 per 100.
LILIES FOR FORCING.
The bulbs may be potted from August onward in a compost of equal
parts turfy loam, leaf mold, rotted cow manure, and sand. It is best to
start them in pots not exceeding twice their own diameter, in which they
may remain until started eight inches or more. They should be trans-
ferred then to larger pots in which to bloom, exercising great care not to
disturb the roots or break the soil from about them, and setting them con-
siderably deeper in the larger pots. This method prevents the soil from
becoming sour, and enables the roots forming at the base of the stem to
become feeders, greatly increasing the number and size of the blossoms.
LILIUM HARRISII. (The Bermuda Easter Lily.)
Very choice, thoroughly ripened bulbs from the finest stock in Bermuda.
Mammoth Size. 9 to 11 in. cire. $10.00 per doz.; $75.00 per 100.
Extra Large Bulbs. 7 to 9 in. circ. $6.00 per doz.; $45.00 per 100.
LILIUM LONGIFLORUM.—Japan Grown.
Giganteum. The flowers of this type are of a large size, perfect in form
and of superior substance; stems marked black.
Formosum. An early flowering type blooming as early as the Harrisii.
On account of unsettled conditions we are unable to quote fixed prices on
Japanese Lilies at the time of printing this catalogue. Prevailing prices
will be charged at time of shipment.
LILIUM CANDIDUM.
(The Ascension or Old-Fashioned English Lent Lily.)
These are grown for us in France, and are the large, thick petalled va-
riety. Pure white bell-shaped flowers, borne in erect spikes, excellent both
for forcing and open garden cultivation. Bulbs from the Marseilles district
have become degenerate and: affected by disease. They should be avoided.
Mammoth Bulbs. $2.75 per doz.; $20.00 per 100. Polyanthus Narcissus, Paper White.
