Ventura County Fairgrounds. Always windy as the venue stage is 100 yards from the beach. It was a beautiful, small place to catch the Dead in those years. Capacity was maybe 7 or 8,000.

Set 1 Dancing in the Streets is a joyous and well presented opener. The song wound down and then goes into a slick segue for the rare Bertha which was not in its' usual opening slot. They work through a tight 'Esau' and a lazy, summer at the beach Loser with growling Jerry vocals and a mean solo. Then they land into what to my ears is the set highlight of 'Cassidy' then 'Ramble on Rose'. Cassidy was obviously such a crowd favorite, you can hear the wave of sunburnt appreciation as they start the tune. You can hear the band was in top form and fine spirits for both these shows.

Set 2 Samson & Delilah, Jerry's leads! Ripping sound quality. Bobby plays great dissonant chords in 'Ship Of Fools'. The crowd was surprised at the bustout of 'I Just Want to Make Love to You' but even more interesting to me musically was the transition into 'Women Are Smarter' out of the bluesy Willie Dixon tune. Bobby on the Bop Bops after NFA. 'Midnight Hour' had not been played yet on summer tour and that knowledge as well as the two song encore sent the deadheads home music filled.
