ORDER TO CONTINUE - Ends of Justice as to Matthew J. Pickering: (Defendant) is charged via a single-count indictment of being a felon in possession of a firearm (Doc. 1 ). Jury Trial is set to begin Monday, March 13, 2017, an initial setting. By motion filed March 7, 2017, Defendant moves to cancel the change of plea hearing scheduled for March 10, 2017, and to continue the trial. The motion sets forth compelling reasons justifying a continuance, including that the parties are engaged in fruitful plea negotiations but simply need a bit more time to prepare the stipulation of facts. Additionally, the motion notes that the Government (Assistant United States Attorney Kit Morrissey) has no objection to the continuance motion. The Court FINDS that the ends of justice served by this continuance outweigh the best interests of the public and Defendant in a speedy trial. Accordingly, the Court GRANTS Defendants motion (Doc. 17 ) and CONTINUES trial to 9:00 a.m. on April 10, 2017.
