DESPITE THIS, i decided that my previously seeded version of the 7/11/02 State Theater show was just too quiet and compressed sounding for playback in the car and on portables which are more unforgiving with a quiet signal than the living room hi-fi. while, i strongly adhere to the purist ethic that live recordings should remain as faithful as possible to the sound generated at the event, sometimes the recordings obtained just don't do justice. in this case, the soudboard recording was heavily lacking in the bass regions, probably due to the fact that the theater was boomier than usual as most folks were sitting down (like the band :-) instead of soaking up the waves in front of the stage. also, the overall signal level was pretty low and had to be normalized anyway. unfortunately, the previous normalization increased the already loud drums, creating a rather uneven overall mix when cranking the volume. THEREFORE, i have painstakingly "remastered" the original recording, trying no less than 3 completely different mixes before being satisfied with the newest one. basically, i pumped up the bass, guitars and vocals in the EQ and maximized the loudness without adding any distortion. while the soundboard mix showed very little stereo separation, i decided not to mess with the 'imaging' as doing so may sound a bit more wide open through headphones, it tends to lose that 'live immediancy' on the hi-fi soundstage. i hope those of you that enjoyed the original will take the time and give a listen to the remaster. if you find this unacceptable for some reason, there's plenty of copies of the origninal out there for you to obtain. just compare it to the previous seed and i think you'll find that it comes a lot closer to recreating the feel of that already fantastic show. i am currently sharing the new version on direct connect in the shnapster hub and on furthur net over a T1 connection so you can get it fast. unfortunately, i don't have much time these days for snail mailing, but if you just gotta, reply here and we can work something out. thanks again to kevn and the band for generously providing us with ability to enjoy this great music for years to come. thank you all for allowing me to be so verbose... enjoy, stitt ------------------- JayH notes: This is Kevn's first stop in DC on the BHAAP tour (the band was in Baltimore in April) and it was great to hear the new tunes as well as great version of older DNC/KK tunes. Thanks to Kevn and crew for stopping by for a good show. Caught the Kevn Kinney Band last night in the DC area (Falls Church, VA) at the State Theatre, which a nice venue for concerts. 'The Band' consisted of Bryan Howard (from Slackdaddy) on bass Dave V. Johnson on drums and Gibb Droll on guitar. In short, the Band sounded great, and it was a more electric set. Overall, it was a good show--2 hours long, with several extended jams on dnc songs (Underground Umbrella and Look What You've Done). The crowd, for the most part, was good though not that large...about 80 people. Most were quiet and enjoyed the show. We were even treated to Gibb's first (and he says last) exhibition of moon-walking.
