Yeager Research Laboratory Assistant Research Section Game Management Division Montana Fish and Game Department Helena, Montana August 15, 1966 ]_/ A contribution from Federal Aid in Wildlife Restoration, Montana Projects W-98-R and W-83-R. y Presently at Department of Entomology, Fisheries, and Wildlife, University of Minnesota, St. Paul . Foreword This compilation was undertaken in an attempt to provide researchers, game managers and others with ready reference to publications, unpublished research reports and other literature concerning wildlife in Montana. It should serve a real purpose in evaluation of past efforts and be useful in determination of future needs and priorities for wildlife research in the state. The principal criterion for inclusion was that the material relate to wild- life research or management work done, at least in part, in Montana. This has included work in Yellowstone National Park. All formal publications — technical, semi-technical and popular — were listed. Unpublished reports and materials were arbitrarily screened and listed only if they contained research results of possible significance or value and are on file and available for reference. Progress reports of investigations continuing for several years were listed collectively under project titles or only the final report was used. Study Progress Reports from Quarterly and Annual Reports of the Montana Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit were not included nor were progress reports of graduate student projects at Montana State University. In most cases these studies have been reported and listed as theses publications. A list of periodicals, maga- zines and collective reports containing general survey and other information of interest to some readers is presented on Page 1 of this report. We undoubtedly have not compiled a complete list, especially in the histori- cal, non-game species, range and forest management, and domestic livestock cate- gories. We have not included all of the titles listed by Habeck and Hartley in their bibliography on the vegetation of Montana. The reader interested in early floral collections is directed to that publication for additional titles. Many references which should have been included undoubtedly were overlooked. We ask the reader's cooperation in bringing these to our attention so that the list can be revised to greater completeness and periodically brought up to date. Perma- nent card files will be held for this purpose in the Montana Fish and Game Depart- ment, Game Management Division Office in Helena and in the Research Office, in Bozeman. Titles are listed only once, under the most appropriate subject heading (See Subject Category Index, pp. 2-3). Partial cross-indexing is provided by the "see also" subject-author-publo date listings at the end of each section. Thanks are extended to the many persons who submitted personal bibliographies, agency bibliographies, miscellaneous titles and materials or otherwise assisted in compiling this report.
