( “ht 1g ly, For the Second Time In Succession we are in 1903 face to face with the shortest crops of many varieties of seeds this country has ever known. Following, as it does, the bad failure of many things in 1901], it makes it all the harder to stand the 1902 shortages. This Price List is phenomenal, I think, from the fact that my entire stock of many varieties of seeds offered herewith, could be disposed of at prices quoted, inside of twenty-four hours, to other seedsmen; but I have made up my mind to pursue the same policy as last year, and that is to give my regular customers the benefit, so far as possible, of any special figures that I am able tomake. With this end in view, I have quoted many vine seeds, tomatoes, beans, sweet corn, cte., below the wholesale jobbers’ prices to dealers, and on this account I must positively insist that the figures given on above items in this Price List are for the benefit of my regular customers only. J will not fill orders for Cucumber Seed exclusively; but on a general order, embracing Peas, Beans, Cabbage, Onion, Melon, Cucumber, etc., | will be pleased to furnish goods at prices quoted as long as my supply holds out; but | will decline positively to accept orders for say 10 to 20 bushels of Gradus Peas and nothing else. I am very sure my regular customers will appreciate this point—that I have not sold out at big prices my surplus stock of many things that are short, as other seedsmen have done, to those who are not regular customers. Wishing you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year, | remain, Yours to command, 1711 Filbert Street, Philadelphia, Pa. ak 7 Jan. 10, 1908. a wish to call particular attention to the fact that this Price List is intended for trackers only, and by trackers I mean those Who are regularly in the market garden business, raising vegetables for a living. In no case ana under no circumstances will orders be filled from it for private gardeners, whom I would respectfully refer to my general Catalogue for 1903. 2 SPECIAL WHOLESALE PRICE LIST FROM WM. HENRY MAULE, PHILADELPHIA, PA. My Four-Leaf Clover GUARANTEE. 1. SAFE ARRIVAL. I guarantee that all goods sold by me shall reach my custo- mers in good order. 2. MONEY INSURED. ‘I ~ guarantee to hold myself re- NV sporsible for the safe arrival | of all remittances sent me by P. O. order, draft, check or registered letter. 3. FREE BY MAIL. I guarantee to deliver, free of all | charges, all garden seeds, when 10 cents per pound or 15 cents | per quart, is added to prices quoted in this list. 4. AS REPRESENTED. I guarantee my seeds to be just as represented. If they prove otherwise, I will refill the order free of charge; but it must be understood that I do not guarantee the crop any further than to refill the order. WHAT MORE COULD BE ASKED? I guarantee everything but the crop. Protected from loss by this most liberal of all guarantees, every one can rest assured of the most entire satisfaction. The Prices Given in This List Are for seeds carefully packed and delivered free on board in this city, to express, railroad or steamship company; but the purchaser MUST in all cases pay the freight. If you want anything sent by mail, 10 cents per pound or 10 cents per quart for sweet corn, and 15 cents per quart for peas and beans, must be added to prices quoted. One-quarter and one- | half pounds may be ordered at the pound prices. Quarter | bushels and half bushels at the bushel rate. TERMS: CASH WITH ORDER, or satisfactory bank reference. Money may be sent by post office order, draft or check. If you don’t remit in any of these ways, REGISTER THE LETTER; you can do this at any post office in America. I will send C. O. D. by express on orders exceeding $10, if 25 per cent. of the money is remitted with the order. I cannot ship C. O. D. by freight. I receive postage stamps same as cash. The Earlier Your Order Reaches Me This Season, — The Better. IT am sure to be sold out of many things quoted in this Price List, if you wait until you really need the seeds before placing your order forsame. At this writing, January 10th, the season has already opened with large orders for everything on which we are especially short, and I have no doubt that by March 1, 1903, there will be at least two or three dozen varieties quoted herein, which it will be impossible to supply my customers. Every trucker receiving this list should have a copy of my Catalogue. It is undoubtedly the seed book of the year, con- taining, as it does, full description of everything named in this Price List, eight colored plates, more than 650 illustrations, 69 varieties illustrated in colors. If you have not already received a copy, you should send for it atonce. It is mailed free to all who apply for it, mentioning this Wholesale Price List to Truckers. ’ EARLIEST IMP. The Only Real Rival of the Famed Surehead. Again I present the great Lupton Cabbage as a leading specialty. No other late cabbage (except Surehead) can rivalit. It holds the place of honor among my cabbage trials, as it has always done. Lupton has some of the best traits of Surehead, with the size and general shape of Maule’s Prize Flat Duteh; but is several days earlier than the A jatter. Its growth is particularly strong and vig- 4 orous. Its color isadark bluish green, indicating ( robust constitution and healthy development. The leaves are broad and well filled out to their juncture with the stem. The stem is short, and broad under the head, but tapers almost to a point where it enters the ground. ‘The head is thick and flat, with the outer leaves covering it well across the centre. It is very large, solid, and of the most excellent quality and flavor, without any features of coarseness, the veins and ribs be- ing well developed, but not prominent. The Lupton cabbage began its career in 1888, on the eastern endof Long Island, in an extensive cabbage growing district. The originator, whose name the cabbage bears, is undoubtedly the largest grower of first class cabbage seed in America and every prominent seed firm in the country considers him an authority on this important subject. In the autumn of 1888 a single specimen of a new strain of cabbage was found growing as a sport in a field of Late Flat Dutch. Mr. Lupton, whose long experience qualifies him to act aS an expert judge, at once recognized a prize in the new sort, and thus the Lupton cabbage had its origin. Lupton deserves, equally with Surehead, the cel- ebrated descriptive phrase, ‘all head and always sure to head.” It matures about a week in advance of the various strains of Late Flat Dutch, is an ex- cellent keeper, and for all purposes of the farmer and gardener, makes with Surebead the two best main crop cabbages now on the market. A HEADING SORT OF RARE EXCELLENCE AND BEAUTY, Another year’s experience with this beautiful lettuce adds to my opinion of its excellence and practical value. It is as good as it is handsome. While in France in 1900 visiting the Exposition I Was fortunate enough to secure this brand new Cab- bage Lettuce, which I offered in my 1901 catalogue under the name of Maule’s Unnamed Lettuce, pre- senting a packet free to my many thousand custo- mers who ordered one dollar’s worth of seeds from me. It certainly created a place for itself, whether in the garden, on the table, or onthe market Stall, and was the admiration of all who saw it. The Shape and general appearance of Rosette is plainly shown in the illustration herewith, and I do not think a better name could have been selected. Rosette is of good size, a plant covering an area of 8 to 10 inches in diameter. The head is full and compact; pale green in color, almost yellow on top. The outer leaves are very much rounded in outline, with a few broad, coarse crimpings, and not nearly So pale in color as the leaves which form the head. The seed is white. It is regular in shape, and the head forms quickly. It is slow torun to seed. It is not the largest lettuce on the market in Spread of leaves; but in actual crop it-outyields many larger Sorts. The first year it was on the market I was in receipt of hundreds of letters praising Rosette in highest terms. LETTUCE. (Continued.) NAMED AND INTRODUCED BY ME IN 1888. With the result that it is now prominently listed in all the leading American Seed Catalogues. Headquarters Stock can be obtained only from Wm. Henry Maule. To carry any vegetable as a novelty for more than a decade, as | have done Prizetaker Onion, certainly speaks well for the vegetable. I named and introduced this great Onion in 1888, and ever since have given it special prominence in every catalogue I have issued. ‘To-day, fifteen years after it was named by me, it will be found prominently illustrated in almost every catalogue. Some call it Smith's Prizetaker; Brown's Prizetaker; Jone’s Prizetaker; and Robinson’s Prizetaker; but no matter how many seedsmen put their names in front of Prizetaker, there is only one Prizetaker, and that is Maule’s, named and introduced by me, and for five years catalogued by myself exclusively. Originally offered in I888 at 25 cents per packet, 5 packets for $1.00, the price has been grad- ually reduced, until this year I am able to quote Maule’s Prizetaker Onion Seed, Headquarters Stock, for $1.00 per pound. Prizetaker is by far the handsomest, most productive, most popular and best of all Yellow Globe Onions. It isa bright clear straw color, and always grows toa uniform shape, which is a perfeet globe, It has a very small neck, and ripens up without stiffness of the neck. In mar- ket it never fails to attract attention on account of its beauty, and is sure to bring a far better price than any other Onion, It is even more attractive In appearance than the large Spanish Onions sold on the ety frult stands, and in fact takes the place of that variety. My predictions made years ago, at the time of its introduction, that Prizetaker would supplant all others of its class, has long since been verified. It has attracted more attention and awakened wider and more cordial enthusiasm than any other Onion ever introduced to the An can public. It has proven itself a great acquisition to farmers and gar deners, and is to-day admitted to be the largest, finest favored and most superior Yellow Globe Onion under cultivation | have, personally, looked in vain in various parts of Europe and \merica for an Onion surpassing Prizetaker in beauty, productiver and general merit, and believe there is nothing better in the whole world It is unexecelled either for home use or as a money maker Last year I offered $1 in two cash prizes of $50.00 each, $4.00 to t customer, residing East of the Mississippi River, sending me the larcest and best formed Prizetaker Onion; and also $1.00 to the customer ing West of the Mississippi River, sending the largest Prizetaker Onion. They were awarded as follows: 0,00 to Dr. W. Gilpin, Brechin, Ontarto, Canada 0,00 to A. kk. Sipe, Graham, New Mexico $50 IN GOLD ert. ess and best formed best and irwest six spect before October 1, will be paid for the mens sent me on or Pel iss 12 SPECIAL WHOLESALE PRICE LIST FROM WM.
