DEDICATION

Thank You, God, for giving us Mr. Percy. We can tell that he knows You. His concern for all people has touched us. We have a lot to learn from our friend, God. Help us to triumph over all the difficulties we must face as he does. Help us to take time to listen even when we are too busy - as he does. Thank You, God, for an example like Mr. Percy.

MR. AND MRS. PERCY

God, we want to thank You too for Mrs. Percy. She loves each one of us so much. Thank You for the individual help she has given. Her talents are used for You, God. We have been thrilled by her music. If only we could catch her enthusiasm and joy, how rich we would be. Thank You, God, for an example like Mrs. Percy.

FINDING LIFE

THE WORLD OUT THERE

The real world out there, my friend, IS a struggle. Yes, a constant struggle for better education, better housing or that |Ob you always wanted. It's a fight to the finish for prestige, success and happiness. Yes, we're all after those elusive things called happiness and fulfilment. Life is to live to the fullest measure, but what will we fill It with? The usual things . . . like party socials, that trip around the world, your favourite T.V program, or that latest novel! Oh yes, and marriage may bring that special someone to grow old with, and those fine grandchildren to proudly bounce upon your knee What then?

The real world out there is confusion. It cannot be the carefree Pepsi- generation tripping softly down the sandy beaches ol a billboard. Have you ever heard about the space race, the arms race, and racism? Are the beautiful people really beautiful, and is the double-standard really a standard? What about the freedom marches followed by steps of revolution, or the drastic rise in air pollution, inflation and over- population? What does it mean to have a "silent majority" when we have lost the meaning of tranquility? How can we hope for global peace when everywhere the restless generation looks for change? Why bother looking ahead when tomorrow may never come' Why look hopelessly backwards when evolutionists claim our jungle ancestry? Oh where does the answer lie?

I'm afraid the world out there is out of bounds for people, but I have heard about the welcome shelter God can give!

TORMENT OF THE SOUL

Forbid this orgy of tlie psyche, where no one wins

Since empty void cannot exclaim a victor

Only screaming silence stares you coldly in the face

And what will the answer be?

My God if I only knew . . . but then the conscious

fragments of my mind reach out for God.

Where are you God?

What unearthly terror, when you feel your being.

Yet looking in the mirror you see no image of self .

Run to others, they will verify your being.

But others have all vanished from existence.

Even the mirror of the past no longer hangs to tell the tale.

Now you have finally lost yourself.

Your earthly image has been slowly weathered

How do you dust corruption off your sleeve!

The perceptions of yourself are gaping cracks on

a monumental mirror of the present.

Maybe God will help pick up these pieces of

a crumbling reflection, and cement a shattered life

together again.

NOW I CAN SEE!

Jesus my wonderful Saviour I see

How You willingly died on the Cross tor me.

Blinded, and stumbling I humbly besought

The freedom from sin, for me that You bought.

My room in Your mansion in Heaven You made;

The hour I accepted Your "saving grace".

Your blood on the Cross, it cleansed me from sin.

It washed all the filthiness, dirt from within.

So precious, so simply Your free gift is given

To those who trust in Jesus and believe He has risen.

This free gift of heaven no one can attain

Through good works of righteousness or wealthy

domains.

Only through true repentance of sin

Can we bid Jesus, to warmly come in.

Wonderful Saviour, my eyes can now see

All that you accomplished, for a worm

such as me.

WHAT ABOUT CHRISTIANITY?

For many the philosophy of life is summed up in this manner. When we come into this world we are certain of three things; birth, payment of taxes and death. What happens after death is a mystery. One's purpose in life is ques- tionable and unanswerable. The general tendency is to live a good life and follow the "Golden Rule", hoping for the best. But It seems this philosophy leaves us grounded at crucial times when eternal truths come crashing down upon our necks! Bitterness and fear are our only consolations.

This reminds us of the man who foolishly built his house upon the sand, only to find it swept away by the floods. But who are the men who build their

homes on the Rock? These men are Christians and the Rock is Jesus Christ. Christianity, as described in the Bible, is the solid foundation and Christ is the chief cornerstone. Only through Him, has God made it possible for us to find a richly satisfying life and to gain entry into heaven. Christ is the only "bridge over troubled waters" that can overcome our estrangement from God. Only His blood, shed at Calvary, has the power needed to remove our sins. To begin this construc- tion we must personally ask the Archi- tect to come into our lives and begin the work in our hearts. He is ever faithful, waiting patiently for this chance.

With this new assurance we can joyfully sing a new song, for when God is with us, who can be against us?

FINDING GOD'S WAY

WAIT ONI

To talk with God No breath is lost Talk on!

To walk with God No strength is lost Walk on!

To wait on God No time IS lost Wait on!

from the Hindi

When we accept the gift of eternal life, we ask Jesus Christ to take up permanent residence in our hearts. In faith, we commit our lives entirely in His hands, with no strings attached! Our responsibility in this relationship is to keep our end of the bargain. To do this we must "Seek the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near." Isaiah 55:6 Daily prayer and meditation on God's Word reveals His Presence, and His perfect will for our lives. Following His leading, we find light to direct us, food to support us and comfort to cheer us, no matter what the sacrifice, for Christ is always near His children.

"Oh Lord, let us never be afraid of a new idea or unreceptive to a new tliouglit, lest we pull down the shades of our minds and exclude Thy holy light. Give as the grace of humility and the spirit of the open-mind, the courage to persist in face of difficulties and a steady confidence in the power of truth. "

Peter Marshall

We as students have all been drawn to O.B.C. from many different backgrounds ,ind have experienced God's providence in our lives. At the College, we have seen God work miracles by meeting our financial, spiritual, emotional and physical needs. His grace is sufficient in our weakness! He is a God who is vitally interested in all areas of our personal flevelopment.

It IS truly a challenging experience to live our lives for Jesus Christ, and know our primary concern is to present every person mature in Christ. Maturing means ripening and bringing forth good fruit at harvest time. A deadline is set. We must make the best use of our time to gain wisdom and truth, so that these tools may be used for winning souls to Christ. Each one of us has been given a special gift, and through the Holy Spirit we can discover it and develop it for His glory.

O.B.C. IS committed to the Truth of God as clearly revealed through his Son. How privileged we are to witness this light, for when "ye shall know the truth, the truth shall make you free." God gives wisdom "to all men liberally and upljraideth not". Having been nurtured in the Word, we are thus able to go out as disciples and reach others for Christ!

SHARING JESUS CHRIST

ETERNAL LIFE

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace!

Where there Is hatred . . . let me show love.

Where there is injury . . . pardon.

Where there is doubt . . . faith.

Where there is despair . . . hope.

Where there is darkness . . . light.

Where there is sadness . . . joy.

Oh Divine Master, grant that I may not

so much seek

To be consoled . . . as to console,

To be understood . . . as to understand.

To be loved . . . as to love;

For it is in giving . . . that we receive;

It is in pardoning . . . that we are pardoned;

It is in dying . . . that we are born

to eternal life.

St. Francis of Assist

Never in Christian history has the need for the Gospel been so great. Man has never been so close to extinction as he is now. He faces the stark realities of thermonuclear war, over-population, environmental pollution and global famines. The answer to man's problem is a supernatural one . . . Jesus Christ. The issue is very plain - "Christ or chaos"! What does the Christian do about this?

Jesus Christ liberated us not only from the power of sin. but for the power of service. To be effective messengers of the gospel, we must sever our minds and hearts from the pollutants of our society. Compromise and conformity to the world's standard leads to spiritual incapacitation. Our dedication calls for highest responsibility in witnessing for Jesus Christ to anyone, anytime and anyplace. Instead of self-centred babies, we become more Christ-centred individuals reaching out in love for others, as He reached out to us.

We, as students at O.B.C. should never fail to lose sight of our highest responsibilities to the One Who loves us. We have been called for the most challenging work of all, to reach out for lost souls in a time of great spiritual darkness!

Literary work on these pages has been contributed by Dzinira Bluks.

Congratulations To Our Class of '71

From our hearts we say to you:

"You yourselves know (our) manner of living among you, all the time (we) have been together. You know we did not shrink from teaching you anything that we felt would be for your good and benefit .... We have not shunned to declare unto you the whole plan, purpose and counsel of God.

"Take care and be on guard for yourselves and the whole flock over which the Holy Spirit will appoint you, as shepherds of the Church of God."

"We commend you to God and to His gracious Word, to the commands, counsels and promises of His unmerited favour, and to give you your heritage among all who are dedicated to Him.

"Be on the alert; remember how for 3 (or 4) years, we never ceased to counsel each of you and pray for you."

wise counsel about permanent insurance when the major factor is low premiums

Presbyterian Ministers' Fund is proud of its continuing outstanding record of growth. One reason for this is the word-of-mouth recommendation of PMF by one clergy- man to another.

Another is that the Fund offers complete, comprehen- sive life insurance coverage to the clergy of all denomin- ations and faiths at very low premium cost.

Through efficient management, the wise investment of assets and the low mortality rate of its clients, PMF pass- es savings on to you.

Our dealings with clergymen in their financial emergen- cies are marked by sympathy and understanding. All sales representatives of PMF are either clergymen them- selves or consecrated laymen capable of complete empathy with the clergy's point of view. All are highly trained in the complex business of life insurance and fully equipped to render competent and efficient service.

There may be other things that your brother clergymen have not told you about PMF. Why not write for full information today?

The crowds eagerly listened td jesus in his day,

In our CENTURY. THEY HEAR THOSE WHO CLAIM TD BE HIS FOLLOWERS.

Do THEY GET

A TRUE REPRESENTATION ?

I LOOK ABOVE

Some folks look down

And only see the dust and dirt.

The grime and garbage, slush and slime;

The rot, the rubble.

Dank decay and death.

And they are sad.

Some look around. They see the suff'ring and the shame. The wanton waste of war, 'midst want; They see pollution, poverty and pain. Privation, violence and vice. Genocide and greed and grief: Frustration, frenzy - fear. And they are mad.

I look above.

These are the things I see.

I see the tree tops waving in the wind,

I see the skylark soaring way up high.

I see the fleecy clouds the azure skies.

The sun, the moon, the stars;

The vast expanse of outer space.

And then I see beyond it all

The hand of the Omnipotent

Upon the helm that guides my bark

Amid the fury of the storm

Into a sheltered haven safe

From all the sorrow, suff'ring and despair

Below,

Around,

And I am glad.
