REPORTS AND RESOLUTIONS.

REPORT OF EXECUTIVE BOARD.

"We beg leave to report that in obedience to your instrnetioiis have kept up preaching at Bradleytoa. We collected '$3.10 at Fifth Sunday n)eetii]g in October at Mountain Hill Church, paid same to pastor, received of CJravel Hill $3 OO last year's pledge, paid Bro. Knlb $1.00 due him, paid ISih)am $1.25 and Antiooh $1 50. We also recommend that this Association continue the Executive Board for the purpose of employino; a Colponer in said Association to dij-tiibute Baptist literature, and that the Association rec(uest pledi^es of the different churches to pay expenses of said Colport.ige work. We further report that we have appropriated the amount of $81 50, pledged and paid the Association as folhnvs: Mouutain Hill, $20.00; Bradleytou, $20.00; Panola, $20,00; Ellis, $15.00; 8ih)am. $(i.50; Chapel Hill, $1 -lO, considered by us as weak churches in the Association. Respectfully submitted,

T, T. DoBBS, Chairman.

REPORT ON BIBLE CAUSE.

We. your committee on Bible Cause, lieg leave to report that the Bible is ttie nnly book that reveals God to man as his ruler. Lord and King in creation, redemption and salvation. The only book that points him to his eternal destiny.

Respectfully submitted,

\y. C. AvANT, Cliairman.

REPORT ON SABBATH SCHOOLS.

At the last setjsiou ot this Association a committee of one from each district was appointed to work up the Sabbath School cause. We find do report from thein in the letters sent up by tiie churches. Five report schools and fight m;:ke no report. One church reports tw.i si-hools and we learn they owe their exis- tence to the zeal of the sisters of that church. We realize that the great need of Chris:ians is a knowledge of the Bible, and we know no better way to get that knowledge than to engage in the •Sunday School work. '^•au}' of our church members seem to think schools are for children only, not realizing that we are all children iu the knowledge of God's word. Paul teaches us, Thes. 5-5, to "comfort ourselves together and edify one another." If any olijecc to Sunday Schools as conducted let them meet to- gether and study the Bible every Lord's day. Respectfully submitted,

W. P. McQtteen, Chairman.

EEPORT ON HOME AND STATE MISSIONS. This Association coatribiites nothing to Home Missions. For several years our eiforts for State evangelization have been con- fined miiinly to our own bounds. We have done this not because we desire to antagonize the agencies of the Bf,ptist State Con- vention, but because in our way we can accomplish more with the money contributed. We hope in the good cause of State Missions that every effort may be increased, every agency era- ployed and all antagonisms avoided, and we urge upon our churches to contribute more liberally to the end that the work of evangelization in our midst maj^ be more earnestly prosecuted Respectfully submitted,

E, L. Harrison, Chairmati.

REPORT ON TEMPERANCE.

Temperance means moderation and opposition to extremes. We may be intemperate in eating, in the use of tobacco, coffee, and many other things, even in language. But we desire to spea'c more specially of that soul-destroying and body-destroying liquid that is used as a beverage all over this fair land of ours strong drink. Vain would be the effort to portray this mouster evil in all its imserable details. But we would recommend that aU persons and especially all who profess Christ refraiti alto- gether from this destructive evil. Brethren of the Alabama Association, let us beg you, lei us plead with you, let us heseech you "touch not, taste not, handle not the unclean thing." Respectfully submitted,

g. A. Sattkrwhite, Chairman.

REPORT ON SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

The committee beg leave to report that our members sb'iuld be in earnest sympathy and deeply interested in every effort to educate their children, They should build up and patronize their local schools and take great interest in the selection of teachers, looking to their morals as well as their literary qualifications. Especially do we recomnieiul Howard College as eminently worthy of our patronage, and al.io the .Judsoii Institute. We trust our members will do all they can to build up these sch')ols. We heartily commend the Seminary a^ Louisville and tiie grand W'^rk it is doing for the education of our younj; ministers. Respectfully subinift"d

F. M. IIausicr, Chairman.

REPORT ON RELIGIOUS LITERATURE.

We, your committee, beg leave to say that first of all the Ril»le should be earnestly and persistently read b)^ all who profess the nan:e of Christ. It is the woid of God, is truih without any mixture of error, and is able to make us wise unto salvaiion. It

is God's will written, witnessed and sealed by ike precious blood of Christ. We further recommend that we take and read our denoininaMonal papers and the best literature for our ciiildren in Sunday School. EespectfuUy submitted,

J. E. KoLB, Chairman. REPORT ON FOREIGN MISSIONS.

We bave no statistics of the outlay for Foreign Missions, but are confident the eflPi^rts and agencies of the denomination are increasing, that the gospel is being prr ached to the betiighted in all places open to the missionary. The Gonly man or woman who enters this work deserves and should have not only our prayers >ind good wishes, but all the material aid we can spare. We bespeak for the cause of Foreign Missions a liberal con- tribution. Respectfully suhniittod

E, L. Harrison, Chairman. REPORT ON MINISTERIAL EDUCATION.

Your committee beg to report that ignorance is the parent of evil and that all persons should be educated. Especially should til J ministry be educated that they may be relieved from embar- rassment in expounding the scriptures. And we would recom- mend that Howard College and our Theological Seminary give nmre attention to the educatiou of young- men preparing for the ministry, thus dispensing with the necessity of a special education for the ministry.

Respectfully submitted,

W C AvANT, Chairman.

REPORT ON D0CU3IENTS AND STATE OF RELIGION.

Having examined the letters from the churches we find first: The church at iSiloam invites the next session of this body to meet with them. Secondly, the church at Chapel Hill has or- dained Elder T. T. Dobbs to the full v7ork of the n.inistry, also has or(iained Bm. W. W Hill to the office of deacon The church at Mountain Hill has ordained brethren L. D. Barfield and L. F. Gregory to the office of deacon. Prayer meetings and Sunday Schools, we regret to sav, seem to be regarded as of little importance by the most of our churches. We further find that death has claimed eight of our faithful soldiers ; but while we view this with its proper decree of sorrow we are made to thank God and rejoice at the glad tidings and good news of the baptism of one hundred and six happy converts. Thus realizing that our spiritual condition is better than last reported, we ^j) on our way rejoicing and sing" Glory to God in the Highest." Respectful y submitted,

S. A. "^ATTEinvTirrE, n hair man.

REPORT ON NOMINATIONS

Your Committee on Nominations beg leave to make the follow-^ ing report: To preach the Introductory Sermon, Rev W. C. Avant; Alternate, Rev. J. E Kolb. To preach the Missionary Sermon, Rev. J. F. Sims; Alternate, Rev. T. T. Dobbs. Respectfully submitted,

C. H. Morgan, Chairman

REPORT ON OBITUARIES.

With bowed heads and sorrowing hearts Ave report that since our last session it has pleased God to remove from labor here to rest m Heaven our beloved brother, Hosea Helms, of Siloam also brother J. H. Porterfield and sister Ella Phelps, of Antioch Bennie Meadows, ot Steep Creek; Vary Rodgers, of Chapol Hill Frances Taylor, of Siloam, and Rachel Phillips and Calvin Cassidy, of Indian Creek. " Ancliorcd in the blessod port, Forever ftom the storm."

Therefore be it Resolved 1st, That we bow in humble submis- sion to the will of Him who doeth all things well. Resolved 2nd, That we fixtend to the bereaved loved ones our heartfelt sympa- thies, praying upon them God's clioicest blessings. "Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord. Yea from henceforth saith the spirit, the}'^ rest from their labors and tlieir works do follow them." AVe again urge upon the clerks ot the churches that they keep a record and send up the names of all members who die that thtir names may app3ar in this report.

Respectfully submitted,

C C. Lloyd, Chairman.
