REPORTS AND RESOLUTIONS.

REPORT of executive board.

The Executiva Board begs leave to report tv.it in January last we met and contracted with Eld. S .1 Williamson to serve as Missionary in this Association, for 8 mouths. 5 monl lis of which time he agreed to take the work on its merits, and the remain- ing 3 months to be paid the amount ($43,00) pledged bv the churches.

Bro. Williamson reports that during the 5rst 5 months, he pleached 50 sermons and made 335 reliarinus visits, aad received from various sources, $24,44. During the- remaining 3 months preached 80 sermons, "made 250 religious visits and received $2.00.

At ttie same meeting in January we instruct \1 Bro. Lloyd t,.» dispose of the books on hand, $39,58, as oest he could, and in May following he agreed to assume the payment of said amount.

We recommend further that the 39,58 colportage fund re- main in Bro. Lloyd's hands and be by him used in the purchase and sale of religious literature, for the next associational year at his discretion, and tliat the Executive Board bo continued and

composed of two men from each district. And further that the matter of employing an evangelist be left with the new board.

Jno. W. Holloway, Chairman.

REPORT ON MINISTERIAL EDUCATION

Your committee on this grave subject ask leave to report that, an educated Ministry means an educated people, an ignor- ant pulpit signifies an impoverished condition of heart and soul. The educated man is better prepared to impress his heart felt message of salvation than the ignorant one.

The spirit of fcbe'times demands that the head of him whose heart is aglow with the love of Christ must be educated and God grant to hasten the dav when every Baptist pulpit is filled by men educated in both head and heart. The plan of salvation though spiritual is nevertheless to the spiritual man logical and appeals to both mind and heart.

We further recommend to our friends and brethren, our own Howard College and Judson Institute.

Respectfully submitted,

J. M. Dickinson,

Chairman.

REPORT ON DOCUMENTS AND STATE OF RELIGION.

We find on examining the various reports from the churches that the state of religion though verv cood is not as satisfactory as we could desire. There are not as manv baptisms reported as formerly, yet considering the very general depression that r>revails we may yet be thankful that it is as well with us as it is. A manifest coldness and indifference to Sundav Schools and prayer meetings stares us in the face. God grant that our hearts may be fired with more zeal and interest, in these important branches of church work.

Respectfully submitted,

S. J. Thrower,

Co airman.

REPORT ON Or.ITU ARIES.

We your committee besr leave to report as follows, during the Associational rear the following brethren and sisters have laid their armor by and dwell in peace at home, Bro. B Cooper of Siloam,P>ro. Noah Beckwortb of Gravel Hill, Sister Sallie Dees of Indian Creek, Sister M A Barrett. Deaconess of Damascus, Mar- ry B Warner of Steep Creek, Bro. S. S. Bishop and sister Flize- beth Bush of Antioch, and Bro. Pevt.on Perdue of Spring Creek, sister Serina Bailev. sister Linnie May and Bro. William Throw- er of Bradlevton, these have laid aside their Christian armor and anchored in the Blessed Port Forever From the Storm. There- fore be it Resolved that we bow in humble Submission to the will of hi in who doeth all things well.

Respectfully submitted,

£. W. Andress.

REPORT ON GENERAL MISSIONS, HOME, STATE AND FOREIGN.

"Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every crea- ture,"

William Carey founder of modern missions was a Baptist, es- tablished the gospel in India and au the civilizatijn, all the Christianity now there, is due to his efforts. The Judsons pub- lished the truth in Burmah and Adoniram Judson opened the ports of China to the civilized world, thus achieving by the s vord of the spirit, more than all earths armies.

Since the organization of the Southern Baptist Convention many consecrated men have been sent by the Foreign Board to China , Persia, Brazil, Mexico and elsewhere many nations have been converted and native preachers now sound out the gospel of our salvation to their benighted brethren.

Missions, schools, hospitals and churches, abound thoughout these heathen nations.

Under the Home Board, Mexico and Cuba, will soon rejoice in salvation and become a land of liberty and gospel light.

As to our State Board we want more men and more money. Respectfully submitted,

C. C. Lloyd.

Chairman.

REPORT ON BIBLE CAUSE AND RELIGIOUS LITERATURE.

God the great Creator of heaven and earth and all things therein has to us his intelligent creatures revealed his divine will through his word the Holy Bible, it teaches us his character his wili, his love, his providence, his mercy, his justice. It teaches mans duty to man, mans duty to God. It is the only book in the world without possible error.

We recommend its universal use. In addition we ...urge the reading or all good books, and denominational literature, and periodicals now scattered broadcast by our presses. Respectfully submitted,

C. C. Lloyd,

Chairman.

REPORT ON SUNDAY .SCHOOLS.

Your committee beg leave to make the following report. 1st We find upon examination of the letters to the association that only seven churches report sabbath schoolsancl that the majority of them have a very small attendance, we are persuaded to believe that this one important work in the churches is very much on the decline. 2nd. We would urge \,pun our Pastors, that they will during the next associatioual year endeavor to instruct the members of their respective chinches their duties of having sabbath schools. 3rd. For w.c believe the sabbath school with wide awake Superintendent and teachers to be one of the best methods of impressing the truths of Cods word upon the minds of the old as well as the youog. 4th. We recommend to this association that they appoint a committee of five and not than three to formulate some plan to gel the people (if pos- to become more interested m this grand work all of which

is respectfully submitted.

J. M. Dickinson,

Chairman.
