The reports of the committees of State, Home and Foreign Missions was called for and read as follows :

REPORT ON STATE MISSIONS.

We, your committee on State Missions, beg leave to make the following report :

The mission cause is the cause of Christianity ; it is the grand head light that penetrates the dark recesses of heathenism, and impresses the uncon- scious mind of the great necessity of turning from the worship of Idols and relying upon a more complete and substantial plan by which to reach the climes of a blessed immortality. This can be attained only by and through the blood of a crucified Redeemer. When we view the history of the church theough all the dark ages of time, we realize the fact that God, through the mysterious workings of His spirit, by the instrumentality of man, has glad- dened the hearts of thousands of poor uncivilized heathens who know noth- ing of his great plan by whiah they are saved. Then we should be more ready to discharge our duty as becometh the fol'owers of Christ, invoking the blessings of our heavenly Father upon our efforts. We find that there is a great deal being done to preach the word to the destitute parts of our state, yet there is room for a great deal more work.

Respectfully submitted,

Wm. Johns, D. Walker, A.L.Ray.

Committee. REPORT ON HOME MISSIONS. We. vour committee, submit the following report :

We find on inquiry that we can't get the evidence upon which to make a definite report, not having the report from our home missionary. We therefore recommend that this matter be turned over to the executive com- mittee.

Respectfully submitted,

W. L. McGee.

REPORT OX FOREIGN MISSIONS.

We, your committee, make the following report :

Our Foreign Missionaries, as far as our knowledge extends, are accom plishing great good, and that should stir us up to our whole duty. Now we beg that all our churches in the Judson Association do more for the foreign work in the future than we have in the past, for they are calling for help in all the foreign lands.

Respectfullv submitted,

J. B. Ward.

His life, his daily walk and conversation fully portraj- what they were. Nor need we attempt a eulogy, because we feel and know that we would fail to do his character justice. REPORT ON TEMPERANCE.

Your committee make the following report :

We believe that the cause of prohibition is moving slowly as the evils of drunkenness is being developed. The people are taking hold of the subject laying aside their former prejudices, and in the light of truth lhe revolution is rapid, and soon we expect this fearful evil that has brought so much dis- tress in the families of this land and corrupted the very nursery, the foun- tains from whence generations are to come, will be removed. Correct that fountain and you remove the evil that corrupts the social circle, the ballot box and your legislative halls.

Called for report on aged ministers and deacons. There beine- no report present, on motion, the committee was con- tinued.

Called for report on Sabbath Schools. The following was read and adopted :

We, your Committee on Sabbath Schools make the following report : From the best information we can get, we find that the interest in Sab- bath Schools is growing less. We are sorry to learn that the churches are not taking more interest in Sabbath Schools. We recommend that all all Baptist ministers advocate the Sabbath School cause more in the future than in the past.

The report on Publication was called for, read and adopted.

REPORT ON PUBLICATIONS.

We. your committee on Publications, make the following report : We regard the Alabama Baptist, a paper published at Montgomery, as the leading organ of our denomination, which is devoted to the baptist cause exclusively. We also recommend to our baptist friends, the Foreign Jour- nal, a paper devoted to the Foreign Mission Work. There are a groat many baptist that know but very little about what is bein^ done in foreign fields by our denomination, therefore we feel that it would be of great satis- faction to them to subcrihe for those papers.

ARTICLES OF FAITH.

OF THE

JLDSON BAPTIST ASSOCIATION.

Art. I. We believe in the existence of one only true and living God, and that He has made himself known to His people under the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the same in essence and equal in divine perfection.

Art. II. We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God. and the only rule of faith and practice.

Art. III. We belie\e in the doctrine of election, that God chose His people in Christ before the foundation of the wrorld ; that they should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined them to the

16

adoption of children by Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will.

Art. IV. We believe in the doctrine of original sin.

Art. V. We believe in man's incompetency to recover himself from the fallen state he is in by nature, by his own will and ability.

Art. VI. We believe sinners are justified in the sight of God only by the imputed righteousness of Christ.

Art. VII. We believe that God's elect shall be called, regenerated, and- sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

Art. VIII. We believe that nothing can separate the true believers from the love of God, but that tney will be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.

Art. IX. We believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper, are ordi- nances of Jesus Christ ; that the true believers are the only subjects of these ordinances, and that immerson only is baptism.

Art. X. We believe in the resurrection of the dead, and a general judgment.

Art. XI. We believe that the punishment of the wicked will be ever- lasting and the joys o; the righteous will be eternal.

Art. XII. We believe that no minister has a right to administer the ordinances, unless he is called of God, and come under the imposition of hands by a presbytery, and is in fellowship in the church of which he is a member.

CONSTITUTION.

Art. 1. This Union shall be known and distinguished by the style and title of ' Judson Baptist Association.

Art. jlI. This Association shall be composed of representatives trom the churches in union, in the following ratio . All churches composed of one hundred members and under, shall be allowed two me.sangers ; those having over one hundred, and not more than one hundred and fifty mem- bers, three messengers ; those having over one hundred and fifty, and not more than two hundred members, four messengers ; and so in graduation one messenger for every fifty members, who shall be required to furnish satisfactory evidence of their appointment by their churches, before they take their seats.

Art. III. The messengers, when convened, shall organize themselves into a deliberative body, by the election of a moderator and clerk. These officers shall be chosen by ballot at each annual meeting, and continue in office until new ones are elected.

Art. IV. The Association shall not interfere with rights of the churches of which she is composed. She shall regard them as indepen- dent bodies in all matters of internal government, and shall only act as an advisory counsel, assuming no authority, except what is expressly delegated to her by the churches, or evidently implied by the very nature of this com- pact ; she nevertheless claims authority over her own members, the messen- gers of the churches, and in justice and propriety must have power to with- draw from, and disown all churches that depart from the principles of this compact, by becoming unorthodox in faith, or disorderly in practice. She should, therefore, regard all the churches united under this constitution, with a vigilant eye for good . Her principal business shall be to promote the Glory of God, bv extending His Kingdom of Grace on earth, through the medium of preaching the Gospel and other means, in accordance with the
