MISSIONS.

Your Committee on Missions are pleased that they are permit* ed to say, there is no longer auy destitution within the bounds of the Judbon Associilion. From the best information we can gather, there is not a single community or person vithin our limits who id Hot in rtach of the preached gospel, when,. but a few years au'o, 'all was a wilderness, aud the people sat in darkness and the shiidow of death.

Now thsy are blessed witli the gospel, and the privilege of Baptist Churches. And the moral, religiouB improvement, of their once dark corners, sliuuld encoarag# the lib«ral christian to feel that the money he has ani-ually given to the mission cause has not been spent in vain. But now (hat the desii:uti(;n in our own narrow bounds have been suppiied,'Bhall we fold our arms and say we have done enough ? may G(.d forbid. The fieli js the world,. and until the GospeLis preached to every creature, we are not at lil)erty to withhold our Lords money, nor conclude that our part of the mission work is ^one.

Ifithiu the bounds ofassociations bordering on our own there \s-

tt large and alarming dcetitntion; anfl as brethren honntl hy the i«auie fraternal ties, and woikin£j in the vineyard of the sarno Loi<t, should we not enlarge onr bounds hy lielping our brethren iw t]i«ir large destitution, which lies so near the door of our own astiociation ?

Much hi.9 been done, and there remains much more yet to do, nortSliould we feel thatour efforts may close until all the kingdoms of the world Vtecomo the kingdoms of Christ.

We suggest no special pl.in, V)ut leave it to the wisdom oi your bodv,4o devise sucli plans as m:iy feem best for the spread of the Gospel of our l)lessed Lord. llespectfullv Submitted

APPEXDIX II— THE WAXTS GF ZIOX— CIRCULAR

LETTER.

Dear lirc'lnen, one of tli(\f;ix'at wants of the cbiircbes, incur section of ilie coimtrv is scriptunii instrnctions, in the doctrines of grace. Many of onr people do not know v\ hat the Baptist doctrines are many of our tninisters fail to preach the distinction docuines of seriptiire eitiier because they do not know them, or because they d.) not believe them. If it was for the want of knowledge, then it ii? either the fauli of the preacher or the churches to which he jireaclies.

It is his fault if he wilfully npjrlects to study the Bible : bnt if heWsnot time to study the Scriptures, on account of the pressing wants of his family, then it is the fault of the church or churches which he- serves, aid yon, Dear Brethre:i of the churches of the Judson Association, if you could le insrructed in the great doctrines of grace that distinguish you from all other people, you must untie the hands of your ministers, and cut them loose from all secular emjiloyment, so that the}' may give themselves wholly to the woid of God and pray^^ cr. This is alisolutely necessary in order that the Pastor himself njay be able to teach these doctrines, because he can not be ei^pected to teach what he does not know. He can not know these things without study ; he can not study without time ; he can find no time without means, and he can not have means unless they are supplied 1)} his churches. If he be compelled to raise the means of support by his engagements in a secular calling, he will not have time to study God's word, to understand which requires the minister's whole and undivided time.

God's word requires you to support yoiw ministers ; and, if you would have them be able to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints ; if you would be properly instructed in these pre- cious doctrines, you must sustain them so that Ihey may scriplur- ablv devote themselves to this great work.

A. L. MARTIN.
