I gratefully acknowledge the receipt of the second part of Plantarum Lindheimeri
and as a thank you for your generosity I am sending you in return 5-600 rare
scandinavian plants.

From my singularly competent and generous friend Asa Gray I received some
time ago the first volume of the Lindheimer collection.l have inserted the first
collection in our herbarium and shall now do the same with the second. The
sheets had been disturbed during the transportation and the assignment of many
specimens is not clear. I must therefore ask you, if possible, to send me a list of
interpretations of plants about which I am uncertain.

I am not happy with my american plant collection. The complete Tuckerman
Herbarium; a small endowment of the Schweinitz collection and Curtises; these I
have received from Asa Gray. From the same new world I have almost nothing
from Oregon and the Rocky Mountain region, also very little from Mississippi,
Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Louisiana. The current Draemondi collection with
this regional distribution has not been made available to me. Thus I must
respectfully ask you if you can send me some of these regional plants för which I
am prepared to remunerate you.
