The course of Collegiate study is that which has proved, from experi- ence, best adapted to purposes of liberal education. The degree of Bach- elor of Arts is conferred on those who finish the entire Classical Course, and pass thorough and satisfactory examinations.
The degree of Master of Arts is conferred, on the payment of the usual fee, upon every Bachelor of Arts of three years' standing, who has sus- tained a good moral character, and has pursued professional or scientific studies during that period. The application must be made in person, or by letter, at least one day before Commencement.
The course of study in the Scientific Department is so arranged as to meet the wants of a class of young men, whose circumstances do not admit of their pursuing a regular College course, but who desire to qualify themselves for business pursuits. With a knowledge of the common English branches, they may enter the Scientific Department, and in three years complete a eourse of Mathematics, Natural Science, Latin, and Belles-Lettres. The degree of Bachelor of Science is conferred on those who complete this course.
There is an examination at the close of each College term, to which the Trustees of the University, the parents and guardians of students, and all persons who feel interested, are invited. When from any cause a stu- dent has failed to be present at the general examination, he shall undergo an examination upon his return, or review the study in the next class.
A record is made of the daily work of each student in every class. When the standing of a student, as shown by this record and the exam- inations, falls below a certain mark, he must review the study.
New students, candidates for advanced standing, in addition to the preparatory studies, are examined in those previously pursued by the class which they propose to enter; or, if they come from institutions in which different authors are read, in those which shall be deemed an equivalent.
No student will take a study to which he has not been assigned, nor discontinue a study without permission obtained from the Faculty.
No student is allowed to be absent in term time without especial per- mission. The absence of a student, from even a single recitation, exerts

on his progress an evil influence which is seldom appreciated by parents or guardians.
Students who arc absent from College six weeks during any one Term of the Senior year, or ten weeks during the entire year, are not eligible to the honors of their class.
No students, except Seniors, are permitted to recite in the Senior studies of the Third Term; and the Senior examinations of the Third Term are limited to the regular Senior studies of that Term.
There are two Literary Societies connected with the University — the Athenian and Philomathean — in which students exercise in declamation, composition, and debate, besides becoming familiar with the modes of eon- ducting business in deliberative assemblies.
The libraries of the University and of the Societies contain a large number of choice and valuable books, which are accessible to students. There is a supply of apparatus in the various departments of Mathematics, Astronomy, Natural Philosophy, and Chemistry. The Cabinet is well selected, and affords the means for the study of Mineralogy, Geology, and Conchology.
Testimonials of good character are required from applicants for admis- sion. Students from other Colleges must produce certificates of dismission in good standing. Students are received at any time, but it is to their advantage to enter at the beginning of a term.
The students are required to be present at prayers in the College Chapel every morning. Every Sabbath afternoon, a lecture on some moral or religious subject, is delivered in the Chapel. It is also required that every student, attend some place of public worship on Sabbath morning.
Records are kept of each student's scholarship and deportment. A low standing on either record is followed by private reproof and admonition, and^notice is given to the parent or guardian. Unexcused absence from a public examination, or continued delinquency, may subject the offender to degradation to a lower class, or to separation from the institution. It is believed, however, that prompt and judicious co-operation on the part of parents and guardians, will relieve the Faculty from the necessity of resorting to severe measures, and that the ends of good government may be secured by means that will save the feelings and reputation of the student.
The Term fees are, ten dollars for tuition, three dollars for contingencies, and three to four dollars for rent of room in the Colleges. The graduation fee is five dollars. No matriculation, or entrance fee, is charged at present.
Boarding, in good families, may be had at reasonable rates. Many of the students board themselves.
By resolutions of the Board of Trustees, one student from each county of the State, to be selected by the County Commissioners and Auditor, or any United States volunteer, a citizen of Ohio, who has been disabled in

the service and honorably discharged, is admitted free of charge for tui- tion. All students are, however, charged for room rent and contingencies.
By a law of the State of Ohio, any honorably-discharged Ohio volunteer, who entered the service a minor, is entitled to free tuition in the Univers- ity, for as long a time as he was in the service under age. Soldiers avail- ing themselves of this provision must procure from the Adjutant-General at Columbus a certificate of the time spent in the service as a minor.
It is earnestly recommended to parents sending their sons to this insti- tution, not to furnish them with extravagant means. The scholarship and character of students are often injured by a free indulgence in the use of money. Whatever is beyond a reasonable supply exposes >he student to numerous temptations, and endangers his happiness and respectability. As a precaution against extravagance, parents may deposit funds with some one residing in the vicinity of the University, in whom, they have confidence, and who may pay particular attention to the pecuniary con- cerns of the student.
